16" Boost Alloy Locking Wheel Nut
For the first time this evening I had cause to remove a front wheel manually, loosened the four wheel nuts of with the help of a rubber mallet, though could not manage to undo the locking wheel nut. In the end I managed to mash up the wheel stud and nut, seems like the two offset keys on the nut are very close and don't give enough purchase to undo the nut manually, so at the moment looks like without going to garage won't be able to remove the wheel, all the other times its been in the garage for the wheels to be taken off.

Seen these on eBay, would they be a better option, as the key has a splined fit, any ideas chaps would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like the garage has been using a impact wrench to take off and put back on the locking wheel nut. Neutral

Hammer a suitably sized socket on, then you'll be able to get the nut off.

Then throw it away and put a normal wheel nut on. No more problems Very Happy

@Schuee, I recently had a similar problem with the locking wheel nut and locking key getting mashed up. On sourcing a replacement locking nut and key, I found that the locking nut and key are actually coded. When/ if you replace the existing locking nut & key you need to ensure it will undo the other existing locking nuts. Thumbs Up

Willaimthe dog, Impact wrench or they employ Popeye Laughing

^^
Retroanaconda, I did read about this method, though still want some form of wheel security, though I know a determined thief will have a method to remove a wheel Crying or Very sad

Boss hog, thanks for the info, might try the locking nuts of eBay, as they look more substantial as they have a spline fitting.

Cheers

Do this to your (replacement) key and you'll have no more trouble.

Hi Blackwolf,

That looks a good idea, to give the key some external strength and something for the wheel brace to fit against, is it just steel tube with a slightly smaller diameter than the key and then and interference fit as I would call it Laughing

Cheers

No point in having locking wheel nuts, the thieving scum just use a kit to get them off.
