Today just finished fitting of my DRL bumper from CSK. Brilliant quality and DRLs are really well built (nice bright white light too- no wimpy blue lights here!)
Only one little issue- the brackets which the bolts go through to hold the bumper to the chassis rails are thicker than on the OEM one so needed some slight adjustment to the way that the captive nuts are fitted which was a fiddle. But otherwise it was dead easy to fit (except all my fir trees holding the bumper end caps on breaking... Ugh!) But once new fir trees purchased looks great now, and was a really good price! Yep it's certainly numpty-proof! (I'm no expert!)
It was supplied with an auto switching unit which you connect to batt +, batt - and sidelight feed and it comes on with engine (not just ignition, it's alternator voltage sensing) and turns off with sidelights I however didn't use it, I just wired it through and on/off switch which I already had wiring at the front for. I like to be able to turn them on/off whenever I like. As for fitting the actual bumper, it's a bit of a fiddle as the brackets are slightly too close together to fit over the chassis member and the captive nuts as the standard one is fitted (or at least it was on mine) so it required the use of some washers and fitting the nuts differently. But nothing drastic, just a bit diddly but you'd figure out a way. The bumper itself is heavy and solid feeling and very well powder coated and looks good. I'm not sure the MOT man will like that! We've had a vehicle fail for exactly that reason, as according to the UNECE (regulations 48 and 87) they are incorrectly sure and could be used at night time, thus dazzling other road users and causing an incident.  Bloody EU!

Fitted my DRL's yesterday, all connected up to side lights. Day time full brightness, turn on side lights and dim to 50% plus added advantage of staying on for 3mins after you turn the engine off.[img][/img]

Coming home from work tonight and I was blinded by a Defender with DRL's and headlights on - I thought they were supposed to go off when you have headlights on - hence being 'daylight' running lights...... Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

^^They are supposedly! That's why we've had problems with DRLs being switched (not on a Defender) because they could in theory be used at the same time as headlights. An engine to TDi for!

How on earth can they be 'dazzling'? They're tiny compared to the massive, dipped main beams above them? If you look at an Audi/Merc etc you will see that they have their DRLs on at all times, even with headlights on, and they don't look too much dinner but it's hard to tell

I find DRLs on some makes rather bright and dazzling. The other night there was a Hyundai police car parked on the wrong side of the road facing towards me with just his DRLs on they where really off putting and rather quite bright. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Legally DRL's should turn off (or be very dim) when sidelights are on (ie at night)

Can I get a simple relay which reduces a circuit to say 20/30% power when another circuit becomes live? (Ie sidelight feed) Cheers, David

They're "dazzling" because they're not directional! Headlights are directed at the road, main beams are dazzling too because they aren't directional either! An engine to TDi for!
