Hi Stephen,
The issue is that the bulbs are diodes and land rover in their wisdom wired the lights backwards (Earth in the centre) to get LED 'bulbs' to work you will need to swap the wires around. Jason Last edited by jasong4110 on 19th Oct 2015 7:23pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Don't think LED side lights are illegal. If they are then my D3 has been illegal for a few years and passed a number of MOT without question 2007 Defender Puma Tonga Green

LED lights that are factory 'E' marked on the lenses such as Wipac or RDX sidelights are legal.
LED headlights are legal again if E marked units. Fitting LED fixtures into Crystal headlights or other aux lights is illegal. |

So, my Wipac crystal headlamps are "e" marked so I can't put 501 LED wedges in them (legally)? 2007 Defender Puma Tonga Green

Paging Brendan... Seriously though, it's not the MOT's job to check that sort of thing. |

No because they are designed for incandescent standard bulbs only and not tested for conformity. If you want LED headlights your talking Speakers or Nolden to be legal. |

As said mot people don't check but putting an led bulb in a light made for normal bulbs is illegal and if you get pulled at one of the vosa stop checks you may get in trouble. Ray

I took the decision to put leds in my sidelights, both in the existing lenses and also in the pilot lights in the Chrystal headlights. I am prepared to take the consequences but not after arguing that my Defender is better off being well lit as I have it now than the poor attempt that is standard.
