Great result. We (mrs Greeni and I) shoot every weekend now at competitions doing sporting, though we laugh when we miss stuff and not slam our empties in the bins, like some people do.. we love it.

Unless your bringing 20 plus birds home an outing, it’s not time consuming. I don’t pluck them, I skin the breast side, cut the breasts out and then pop the legs out. Take 3-4 mins a bird. The breasts get consumed like chicken and the legs usually get slow cooked till they are dropping off the bone.

I shoot mainly DTL, and i've seen some seriously upset people, I remember once one couple walked off after their first 25, got in their car and drove home!
My dad also once saw somone throw their gun to the ground in a tempur!
I just think to myself 'it's just bit of fun' and long my it stay that way.

Starting process depends what type of shooting you want to do - targets or hunting?

My wife was at Bisley as well for the Ladies day today. She's been getting back into shooting now were retiring some of our horses from polo. I'm tempted to give it a go as well, I've not shot for about 20 years though.

To be granted an FAC you have to show good reason for each firearm you wish to acquire.

Good uses for firearms can cover a number of uses/disciplines.

Shooting animals covers different species which require different firearms/calibers shoot and land approved for that calibre. I am not the person to give advice on this.

You then have target Shooting. This again takes the form of many different disciplines using many different firearms. Anything from higher powered air rifles through to 50 BMG with lots in-between.

Disciplines can also differ tremendously. These can be indoors or out. Some are based on precision and each shot is given great attention. Others are set times for a number of shots and others require you to shoot a number of targets in a course of fire as quickly as possible - timed to one hundredth of a second. The precision stuff is where you try to regulate your breathing and heart rate. In some dynamic shooting you finish a course of fire panting with your heart racing.

Sometimes what you can shoot is influenced by where you are as being miles from a club that does the shooting you want to take part in can cost a lot in money and time.

If you explain what type you are interested in and where you are I am sure there are many who can point you in the direction of clubs or associations where you can go.

I hope you can find something that floats your boat.

so always had a desire for owning a gun ever since being a wee kid and messing around with my mates dad's air guns.

so eventually started looking into buying an air rifle but then realised you're allowed to own semi-auto assault rifles......

so then I ask myself why the hell would I want to own an air rifle when I can have an AR-15 Very Happy Thumbs Up

anyhows as a stop gap I've bought a break barrel air rifle.

so in reality its to own a gun, even if its just to polish it (Mr. Green) and I've got my eyes set on a particular .223.

I had the chance to try various guns last year from black powder revolvers, to semi-auto 22lr, 45 winchester lever operated etc. While the semi auto was the one I thought I fancied it seemed like a glorified cap gun by comparison to the others.
so to that end I fancy a .223 for target shooting at >100 yards.

does that help with questions raised.

there's an outdoor target place near-by and I guess I need to drop in and find out whats on offer and for what calibre etc.

Indeed you need to get to a shooting club and see if you enjoy the sport.

To be honest I am not a great believer in owning a gun for the sake of it and you certainly wouldn't get an FAC for that.

There are different methods to polish guns. An early de activated gun may be more favourable as you can fondle them to your hearts content. They do have some alterations but some of the old ones are quite good - though you will pay a premium for these.

.22's can be good fun and we can't have full-bore semi autos so don't worry about those.

Having a discipline you want to take part in is a big plus. It gives you focus and it is much more enjoyable than just shooting for the sake of it.

One point to note. The requirements you need and the hoops you have to go through to gat a FAC are not easy. Don't try for it unless you are serious about your commitment.
