United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Orkney Grey
From Anti to passionate game shot! Spare time is spent with fellow guns on keepeing and shoot maintaince duties.
Perfect day for me is a gentle walk up , watching my rescue dogs work and a bird or two harvested for the pot !

Precisely Venomator.

Anyway, now that we have established there's some interest in turning live rounds into empty cases - how about a D2.net shoot day? 2005 110 XS - Cairns Blue "Bertha" - Gone, and sorely missed

Anyone thinking of going to The Oxford Gun Company open day on 26th Sept?

Also, has anyone here got any experience dealing with them?

I use Premier Guns, who based at Doveridge are very convenient.
Open days can prove expensive... Wink

We are looking at going the Chatsworth Country Show this weekend.
E J Churchill are organising Sporting and Flush shoots, should be good, it's a fantastic show.

Hunting season is starting and the guns are oiled, sights checked and weekends booked. Thumbs Up I too believe that Land Rovers, hunting and dogs come together nicely and with this in mind equipped my Defender accordingly, both in terms of gun and dog transportation Very Happy

The passion for hunting is much about the walks, the preparation, being drowned in nature, watching the world wake-up, counting the animals, watching the dogs work, being with friends and family, and the quiet that surrounds you when sitting in a forest or on the side of a mountain.
I must not forget that arriving in a Land Rover Defender at a hunt is also a source of satisfaction that I cannot really explain. It may not be a Range Rover, BMW X5, ML or the likes, but on a hunt it has a certain class and heritage that attracts attention and admiration from many.

That's a great set up you've got there, love it... Thumbs Up

Especially like the Load Lugga, not seen that before, may have to investigate some more... Mr. Green

Ken, your gun safe looks much better than mine Smile

@Venomator - Thanks for the Thumbs Up Given the height we have in our Defenders, which often goes unused, I can only encourage the installation of the Load Lugga. It is a pain to install, and I had to put some rubber strips between the metal supports and the tray to get rid of the noise created by metal on metal, but once in very practical.

@Kitoper...
I am nearly sold... Whistle

What is the installation/fixing issue - it is not clear from the Mantec site... Rolling Eyes

Is the upper shelf, the actual Load Lugga, something totally separate from the other Mantec shelving/window/dog guard systems, i.e. can it be installed as a standalone product... Cool

Love the Green response too, thanks... Mr. Green

I go clay shooting at Dalry and also at Houston (near Glasgow airport).

For those who are a member of a club there is always the full length MOD range at Garelochhead. Used to have fun shooting a Lee Enfield .303 up there. A proper gun! Thumbs Up

It can be installed as a stand alone - the issue was that I wanted it up against the LR dog guard and by default the load lugga is in the middle of the rear load space as can be seen in the pic below coming from Mantec.

The other issue is that Mantec assumes we all work with their products every day and therefore don't need installation instructions.

After figuring out how the supports, (red arrows indicate supports) supported the rack, I understood that the supports need to be bolted onto the Defender using existing roof bolts and are pre-drilled to line up with bolts at a give position. I had to modify the supports to suit the place I need it to be positioned.

By lining the load lugga up to the dog guard, I optimise space and the dog guard works as a backdrop for the load lugga.

I hope all this helps a little. I should have taken pictures when doing it, but was too busy thinking about how to do it Embarassed

I too had looked at the Mantec shelf concept, great as it is , I didn't actually want something that obscured rear view through the mirror, which I assumed that it does??

I also didn't want to lose as much of the available height , relative to sticking large objects in and the dog having plenty of head height available.

So with a bit of sawing, spraying and drilling, I came up with a shelf on the right hand side, just under the alpine window.

I was spurred on to do it as after the last very wet dog walk, I put my new ( worn once !) Swedteam poncho in the back, rolled up, and by the time I got home, the two dogs had nicely put more holes than it had in it before Big Cry little Censored

Now I can keep jackets, hats other items, out of reach, and sight, wet or otherwise, it just gives a bit more easy access space than unlocking and messing with the T chest etc, as when the dogs are in the back its a ballache Shocked
