I'm supposed to go for first beating of the season this coming Saturday, but it just seems too early to me.
I don't like the feel of beating in the "summer" so I might give it a miss until October.
I don't need to go abroad to achieve that ^, it is easy enough to do in England, if you want to. I don't let these gizmos dominate my life, I just switch 'em off. ![]() |

Easier said than done Slideywindows! I work for myself, clients in different countries / timezones. However my Nexus6p is about to die, so it could be a very peaceful trip!

Great trip to Norway - 4 days of hunting grouse in the mountains above Myrtal. My companions had two setters and an elderly overweight brittany spaniel. No prizes for guessing the most useful dog on the trip, the little brittany knew the job inside out and made her way at her pace from one patch of cover to the next, flushing the birds on command and dropping to flush. Fantastic to work with. The setters had gps units on which alerted the handler if the dog was on point and provided directions to the dog. One dog covered 150km in 3 days!! On foot we covered about 20km per day and 1km of climbing. Anyway, a picture tells a thousand words etc....

It the charity day at our shoot on Saturday, 60-70 birds but a few novice guns, one of which I'm looking after. We start properly on Thursday and then it is every Thursday through to the end of the season. Tomorrow morning I'm off to Ian Coleys for a lesson (lesson no.1, don't put the gun down in Feb and expect to shoot well in Oct....)!
Have a good season everyone. |

Slideywindows I used to beat in Galleywood just out side Chelmsford years ago really enjoyed the day but due to work had to give up,now I,m retire I wouldn't mind starting again ,do you know of a local shoot wanting beaters ? The last time I was out it was 1989 I had just bought a brand new VW caddy pick-up ,and the last brand new car I will ever buy.

Had our shoot ruined today by a bunch of hunt saboteurs - difficult to tell as they were wearing 'black kit' including balaclavas but seemed to be mainly youngsters with a few adults chucked in. They were being co-ordinated by radio by a couple of guys in a white 110 hardtop with radios. Police everywhere - wonder if they nicked the guy driving the 110...
