Blue smoke on start up....
Morning all,
I have quite a lot of blue smoke being emitted out of the exhaust on startup.
I wasn't to bothered during the colder weather as I thought it was just the system riching up prior to start up.
However now its warmer I still get the quite large puff of blue smoke on startup which then dissipates as soon as I move off.
Could this be anything to do with the EGR starting to block up or the maf sensor?
Thanks all.

My EGR is dying a slow death, the last few weeks has seen a big change in noise during switching off, and you can hear it operating when coming to a stop, making some real random squekey noise,

But since it's been playing up I have noticed blue smoke on start up too!
I'm replacing the EGR this week, so will let you know if it cures the smoke problem. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Yeah dgardel I had quick scan of the seals and there is no external oil / black sludge leaking out.
Could they be sucking in air which could affect the mixture?
How easy is it to replace the seals do they just lift out? Series I 86" Petrol orig side valve (daily hack)

If the leak is small, especially when the motor is cold the engine suck oil from the head (cams area) and at the beginning of the leak you cannot see anything outside

but it is only a supposition

is the engine eating oil?

the egr valve that does not close completely may be the cause also

mhmmm...

Normally Puma engines doesn't eat any oil.....

it is better check the injectors seal (the lower ones, the copper washers)

It's not an easy job, you need to "use" a good diesel systems workshop.

Hi Yolo,
Just turned over the 50,000 it's a 2008 ......... Pre engine mod / service bulletin but not rattling.
Had the management light come on a couple of times lately and the egr valve doesn't always make the chugga chug on shut down.
Have been using shell V Power whenever possible but occasionally run regular ( when not able to fill up with shell.) Series I 86" Petrol orig side valve (daily hack)

also controls the values of the cylinder compression.

If the copper gasket does not seal the injectors, also the compression will be a little bit less (assuming that the cylinders and valves are in working order) Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
