Hells teeth that's a lot of money. For that you could go out and buy another one that doesn't need repair.

Embarassed Thank You

If I had a big enough workshop I and could afford it would happily do it full time.

I have got some ideas biased on bulkheads too but they need investigating, developing and costing.....hummm Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

That is a very good job Shaggy, do admire your work. If I was still in the garden of England I would have popped round Whistle

It costs nothing to research does it? Look into what it is you want to do and develop the idea then go for the funding. If the banks are out of the question there's always that crowdfunding thing that seems to be very popular these days for getting ideas off the ground. Look at that Pebble watch! They wanted to raise £100k and ended up with millions lol.

On the subject of workshops, i'm hoping to get a roof on my garage this summer. It's big enough to fit two Defenders in with plenty of room to work on both. I may look for my 110 project then and do a lot of the work myself. My wife used to do interiors etc when we were into the Yank cars 20 odd years ago, i'm sure I could talk her out of retirement for one last job Very Happy

Then again would you want to part with your 90? It's so easy to become attached to a Defender that no matter how much work they need you'll do it rather than see them go to Defender heaven.

Problem is, the idea I have have would potentially step on a few peoples toes- and they could very simply adapt there current set-up which would then put me put of buisnesss leaving me with a pile of overpriced bulkheads nobody would buy which I would have to fund Shocked As I say, ideas and thinking and careful negotiation needed. But the idea is there just needs to grow from an ember first Thumbs Up

You lucky so and so! I am still trapped at home with my parents so had to rent my garage space (from them Rolling Eyes ) for a week to get it all done (I'm still amazed I got it all done in a week to be honest Shocked) and we don't have room to expand our garage so I will have to look to move out and rent a garage space- which is money away from travel/house/beer funds so its all a bit up in the air at the moment.

Sounds great for you though! Great thread by the way, its always nice to watch a good restoration and rebuild thread. Keep the updates coming Very Happy Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Thanks for the kind words mate. I visited a paint shop today and got quoted £2k for a full re spray with the bottom in a kind of NATO matte olive green and the top in gloss black. He's going to treat the mirrors, snow cowls and snorkel so they can be painted in gloss black to match with none of the mottling in the plastic on show so it will all be completely colour coded. The wheel arches will be the same and they will be able to move and bend without the paint cracking etc. He showed me around his workshop, the heat booth for drying and the paint booth and this guy knows what he's doing. I was hoping for around £1,500 but I'm convinced he's the guy to get it done exactly how we want it after looking at his previous jobs. Just need to start saving now as we have a lot to change on the 90 still that will also need painting.
