Thanks Rugbyball. It's very satisfying doing these Defenders I have to say. You can almost do anything with them.

Some new toys arrived ready to fit this weekend hopefully.
Click image to enlarge I think these wing mirrors are far better than the original Land Rover ones. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

No mate they're RDX mirrors from Bolt On Bits and they're adjustable too (by moving the glass that is). I'm going to pop the glass out and add some heating pads to the back of the mirrors to help during the cold weather. I'll wire them in to my heated front screen so they come on and off with that.

Yes there is. The bottom half will be Keswick green and from the bottom of the windows up will be Mercedes gloss black although i'm liking the primer look at the moment lol. There's quite a few jobs to be done before the paint job which is the most expensive (other than the interior she wants). A friend of mine who's an airbrush artist and does custom murals etc on cars and (mostly) vans is doing the paint job but he's booked up for a few months in advance so this time is allowing us to get the toys ready so when the paint is done the whole job will be complete and I can look for my 110.

I got the wing mirrors installed this afternoon after a lot of potching about and also the ariel and rear window washer squirty thingymajig. For some reason the hinges didn't want to go back on properly but they gave up in the end and succumbed to a superior intellect lol.
We didn't realise when we started that the snorkel would prove a problem. Click image to enlarge To change these you have to take the interior door panel off to get at the bolts located on the inside that bolt the mirror to the hinges. On mine it was a Torx T40 socket and they came out quite easily, probably due to the fact they hadn't long been put on during the rebuild procedure. I didn't really document this properly as it was a pain in the arse getting the bolts back in properly so I appologise for the lack of photographic evidence. Click image to enlarge This is when the new RDX mirror (courtesy of Bolt On Bits who have some brilliant Landy products) went on very easily. Click image to enlarge The trouble with this is when you open the door the bloody snorkel is in the way so I need to phone my engineer brother to make up a spacer for me. If you see here, the gap between mirror and snorkel is quite limited even with the door closed. This is the gap with the door closed. Click image to enlarge And from an angle. Click image to enlarge And this is with the door open. Click image to enlarge And this is as far the drivers door will open. It's a good job I married a midget who can fit through that gap easily until I get the spacer made up. Click image to enlarge This is how it looks from the front with both mirrors on. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge While I had the tool set out it was time to reconnect the ariel on the back (as it was taken off the truck cab we changed) and also replace the broken rear window washer with a new unit. Drill a pilot hole and then a bigger one for the back of the ariel to fit into. Click image to enlarge Freeding it through the hole. Click image to enlarge And with the window washer assembly bolted in. Click image to enlarge After all this and being very careful I find i'm a fraction out of alignment. Click image to enlarge I've been up since 6am this morning waiting for a chap from Stoke On Trent to come and pick up the old truck cab and rear tailgate so no sidesteps for me today, i'm too knackered. I hope this isn't boring you all and once again I apologise for not taking more photos of the mirror installation. Have a great weekend everyone Incidentally, i'm desperately looking for one of these rubber A bar gromets if anyone can help. I have cash waiting if you have one going spare. Two jobs done today but poor photos once again sorry. Fitted the rocksliders and the X Defend pedal lock which is brilliant.
There was already a sill of some sorts on the 90 when we bought it but it didn't have the rocksliders that were supposed to come with it so we put these on under them. There's enough room to get your foot under it (which I need as it's so bloody high). Click image to enlarge I think with the box section that's above the new rockslider now it gives it a nice chunkier look. Click image to enlarge Then in went the X Defend pedal lock which is a bit like a rubiks cube fitting it in. When you tighten the bolts they sheer off to a round head and then the only way to get them out is to drill or grind the heads off. Brilliant, I may sleep a little bit better tonight now for a change. Security plate down. Click image to enlarge Security plate up. Click image to enlarge One gripe I do have about the X Defend is the fact they cut out the piece of steel that would have covered the bonnet release which I thought would have been much better left covered and safe. Now if someone can break into the cab they can also pop the hood I didn't want to post too many pictures or too much info about the pedal lock for obvious reasons but suffice to say we are very happy with it and if the wife can work it easily then it's child play Up later in the week is a new alarm system with engine cut off and GPS, some LED spot lights on the rubber A frame, rear LED worklights, new oil and filters, fuel cut off switch and hopefully the time to make up a bracket to change the fuel tanks over from a Tdi at the side to a TD5 at the rear so we no longer have to climb in the back of the van (where the fuel neck is currently located) to fill up. We were in a garage last week climbing into the back to fill up and the owner run out screaming the place down thinking we were going to torch it or something. He looked a right dick when we pointed out the fuel neck in the back lol. Time is limited this weekend sadly as we are rescuing another dog that has been severely mistreated in the past. This one is from Yorkshire. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
