Ok verdone, if I get it done first I'll let you know then.
I forgot to mention that LR had recorded my fualt as an air sensor issue to! I'm guessing the air sensor is out of range from the normal as it is sucking in more fresh air than expected, The amount of fresh air sucked in may be reduced slightly at the air intake if the EGR can pull some through the 5mm hole on the plate? |

These bloody engines, I initially blanked off the more complicated side of the EGR and had a fault light, which turned out to be because my tyres are too big (as if) so not an issue. Today I blanked off the recommended side of the EGR, then caned the tits off her coming home and no lights at all, so mine doesnt seem to have a problem with blanking it. What I have done though is fitted a bigger intercooler, de-catted the exhaust and fitted Petes noisy middle pipe , so she does breathe much more easily.
I also ordered a scangauge as I have 4 transits as well as my 90 that use the same kit and they keep kicking up fault codes, so if I get any more problems I will let you chaps know 2019 MY Disco 5 HSE Lux Audi A4 Avant 3.0L TDI Quattro - WOW 2016 90 Adventure Last edited by Bogblaster on 26th Jun 2008 7:25am. The chaps at that forum said : "if youve blanked off the EGR and it has a sensor on the EGR you need to drill a 5mm hole in the blanking plate this allows sufficient air to pass to fool the ecu, but doesnt allow the EGR to open." But the weird thing is why it gives us a air sensor warning and not something like egr warning Greetings Verdone |

I have now drilled a 5mm hole in the blanking plate and the engine sounds and drives as if fully blanked off. I have found that every time I blank the EGR it takes (as Pete's mentioned before) 3 driving cycles to come on and another 3 to turn off once removed. The current state is on so I'm hoping after another 3 cycles the light will go off and the plate (with 5mm hole) will be in.
Lets hope this works as I'm guessing it's going to be the final prototype for Pete... ps I thought I would do this quickly when I got home, I ended spending 20 minutes looking for a socket that my 2 year son dropped down inside the engine bay.... |

This is the same message I got thats now been cleared. I will continue to run with the blank plate un drilled for now. I cover about 400 miles a week so if there is going to be issues they should show pity soon |

If any one fancies a bit of reading up on the EGR system, the first two are quite in depth long reads but I think you'll learn alot if you stick with it....

EGR blanking plate = engine warning lamp
EGR blanking plate + 5mm hole = engine warning lamp Andrew has your warning light come on again after resetting? Thanks Rich |

Has anyone got any news on how to run with an EGR blanking plate without setting the warning lamp off?
I'm keen to get a plate back in mine as the engine ran much smoother, but I am worried about running with the lamp on. Cheers Rich |

Hey Verdone, with regards to the Scanguage you have, I have read that there are 10 preprogrammble fault code reset programs that can be written to the engine. Do you know if a reset program can be sent to the ECU each time you switch on the ignition thus cancelling out the engine light with the plate fitted?

I have tried disconnecting the sensor to no avail, it doesn't seem to make the engine run as smoothly as one with a blanking plate fitted. I think mine may be stuck open so whatever I do with the power to the EGR vlave makes no difference. What do you mean by reconnecting the monitor pins? |
