Majority of my driving is country lanes and fields! I reckon I'm getting about 24mpg. If I do any urban driving and I'm stuck in traffic and it falls away to about 21 mpg but to be honest I've never worked it out too specifically. Besides I never bought this as an efficient run around I bought it because I love it! LR 90 XS GONE! Hurrah!

The majority of vehicles seem to do somewhere in the mid twenties with some doing less and some doing more. In some cases there are a lucky few doing in excess of 30 mpg. Does the ECU control the fuel consumption? If so they should all perform relatively the same - driving conditions etc being equal. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My 110s last tank 64.2 L 437 miles (on clock) Reckon thats between 29 and 29.5 MPG allowing for error.
Mostly M5 at 55-60 MPH According to GPS speedo out 5% and Odo out just over 2% (funny i expected the same error on both) hoping on the next tank GPS will be up and running and i can get an exact for the milage. Im well chuffed - whole time in France with same driving conditions never got better than 27.5. If it aint broke its just waiting. |

Thought I would add another comment to the longest post in the world.
First tankful (whist 'running-in') - 343 miles, 51.99 litres (11.43 gallons at 4.546 litres for UK gallons) = 29.2 mpg. I'm quite happy with that - it's literally double what I was getting from my Defender 90 V8 50th!! Greg Currently: 2013 90 2.2 Puma Base Station Wagon 1991 90 Tdi 2015 Discovery Sport 2.2 |

That's good going Greg, I'd be more than happy with that, did you run it much after the light came on? Cogito ergo sum

I think the warning light signifies 15L left IIRC.
However, the engine goes into a warning cycle of running rough and limping at around 5L or something like that. You should get at least 10L once the light goes on - that's around 50-60miles. That said, I tend to fill up shortly after and carry 5L in the back with me. The fuel gauge is much better on the Puma but I was caught short in my Td5 once and won't make that mistake again. Yes, I'm sure it's 9l - a couple of gallons. It seems that once the light is on there's an electronic means to keep it on, as it never goes through the intermittent on/off that all my older cars went through (eg, due to pulling up a steep hill, etc, braking heavily, or anything that sloshes the fuel around, in spite of any baffles that the tank may contain) - what do you think? 1953 80

Something that I think might affect the MPG L/Km more than anything else is if you have a snorkel, air temp and pressure much more than aerodynamics of the brick.
On a camping trip these last two weeks we averaged 11.89l/100km or 23.76Mpg (imperial) 4500km traveled 99% tar 120kmh on highway (except during double demerits this easter) Very hot with A/C on most of the time standard tyres ARB trade roof rack (empty one way, loaded on return) Mantec snorkel Cheers Mark |

Yes easter trip did 480km tank fill to tank fill which took 56.5 litres =23.78 mpg doing 110km open highway over rolling hills and up to 4000 feet and including about 40km low range fwd up rover beds and muddy forest racks |

posted an answer to this before, now i have done nearly 6k miles, and have adjusted the change pattern on the autobox, it is rising, i know get 28mpg, on a mixture of driving. max speed is 60ish.
also noticed the fuel make s adifference. normally use shell, but used there garage at abingdon, M74, and the reurn dropped off to 22mpg. been there twice and had the dsame effect, will avoid from now on. Cheers keith puer claudius |
