Dodgy aux-in jack on LR head unit?
Hi all,

Anyone else ever get a dodgy aux-in jack on their LR head unit? Mine initially was OK, but the audio one side started to sputter in and out, and eventually gave up the ghost.

When it is on CD or radio, stereo functions fine. I've tried different cables from the iPhone, different phones/iPods etc - nada.

Back when the 110 was still in warranty I complained to LR about it, but they squirmed out of it somehow, too much of an effort to address that when there were more important things to cover.

I was considering popping out the radio and seeing if it is a bad soldering joint or something... Rolling Eyes

Poor connection to the jack most likely, doubt repair is viable.
Used Defender HU's commonlylp sell for relatively low prices.

One thing to check is that the diameter of the body of the plug isn't too big to allow proper engagement. The socket is recessed slightly in a circular recess and I used to find (before I changed the HU) that most plugs wouldn't go in far enough for a reliable connection.The result was crackling and one channel dropping out.

When I eventually found a lead with an unusually small plug body all was OK.

Failing that it could be dirt in your socket, or a dry joint between the HU connector and pcb, neither of which can really be dealt with easily.

as blackwolf said you need a small diameter plug body to fit properly DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I had the same problem on my 2012 2.4. Tried multiple leads and all were the same. I should have persevered with getting it fixed under warranty.

If it isn't a mechanical issue due to the size of the plug, I would try a little squirt of electronics switch cleaner or a blast from one of those aerosol air dusters down the hole before writing it off. As blackwolf says it could be dirt or dust that has got in there.
