All the recent fabrication work is now primed and I've removed the props, axles and springs ready for refurbishment:

I made a start on the rear axle last weekend and got it back together today.
Drum backing plates degreased and de-rusted in a 10% solution of deox-c: Click image to enlarge Whole axle assembly stripped and primed with electrox: Click image to enlarge No significant signs on wear and nothing broken in the diff: Click image to enlarge A new pinion oil seal: Click image to enlarge Gasket between diff and axle casings: Click image to enlarge Oil seals on the hubs: Click image to enlarge And even the little felt washers on the ends of the half-shafts: Click image to enlarge The stub axles and bearings are all good and I replaced the hub lock nuts as the old ones had been done up and undone with a chisel by a previous owner: Click image to enlarge All back together and with a few oily handprints for good measure: Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Just about warm enough over the weekend to get a coat of epoxy mastic on the chassis and rear axle:

The painting marathon seems to be nearing an end - and not a moment too soon! I now have the final coat of Tekaloid enamel on the chassis, rear axle and springs. I put a new pair of rear springs on along with new dampers, brake pipe brackets and U-bolts:

Thanks Venomator - very kind of you to say!
It is a pleasure to have the space and disposable income to not have to cut corners. I could do with a bit more time though! Everything is taking ten times longer than expected, but there is no deadline so it can take as long as it takes to not need doing again for a while. Looking forward to getting the front axle back on and being able to push the completed rolling chassis out into the Spring sunshine. |

Not much time today but I did get the new Delphi Lockheed wheel cylinders, Mintex brake shoes and new springs fitted. I also cut off the old adjusters as one of the springs had broken and assembled some new ones with a dab of Loctite on the little screw that holds the cam on:
