Thank-you!
You're going to be very disappointed when I bolt all the weathered Birmabright back on and end up with something that looks like it did before I started... |

It's all done with superconducting magnets... and a length of bar bolted to the feet and clamped in the workmate.
I got the paint matched to the rest of the very old deep bronze green on the inside. |

Top work there Miles, & very speedy. You haven't been mucking about, & with the sort of work you've done, this veicle will be around for a very long time.
Well done, Pickles. |

We just purchased another one and in process of ordering a galv chassis, first one we rebuilt years ago on a galv while I was still too young to appreciate the rebuild

The welding to the chassis is now complete. It's had both dumb irons fabricated from 3mm plate & Richards Chassis spring hangers:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge A replacement body out-rigger on the nearside where the front of the tub is mounted: Click image to enlarge And a new gearbox crossmember and the large crossmember immediately in front of this as both had been bashed into the ground and had quite a few patches on them. Much quicker to cut off and replace with the millimetre perfect replacements from Richards Chassis. Click image to enlarge Plus a couple of minor jobs such as a small patch on the rear crossmember and a lug for the radiator panel. It's completely solid now and will hopefully give many more years of service. I did have a bit of a dilemma as to whether to get a new galvanized chassis and indeed could have done for a few hundred pounds more than it has cost to repair the original. However the complete originality of the vehicle, that the majority of the chassis is still as good as new and wanting to preserve the originality as much as possible really made the decision to get it repaired. Next steps are to paint the chassis with epoxy mastic and then I'll start on the axles. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
