hand brake tricks
Shocked
Going to take it apart later

Any tips on putting it back together such as putting grease anywhere, applying handbrake before tightening things up, ensuring shoes are properly located etc

Many thanks.

wash out with brake cleaner ( careful about brake dust )
grease the pivot points ( only yery small amount of proper brake heat resistant grease )

adjust so it doesn't bind !!!!!!

are you taking the shoes off the back plate ? or just drum off ?

if you taking the shoes off one trick is to take some digital pictures of it first so you know where the bit go putting it back together ( that's if you not got a workshop manual )

why are you touching it ?

If it's not giving you too much grief leave it, or get someone that doesn't have OCD or actually knows what he is doing and will not have to post prolifically on here to sort it. Please!

on the inner face where the prop bolts go through ?

check the inside of the drive flange where the nut is on the transfer box to see if that is dry ?

I agree with BT .... On the verge of causing endless other unrelated problems and catastrophic failures! Whistle Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

BT - thanks for the support Very Happy

Think it looks worse in the photo than it actually is.......pretty sure the nut off T box is clean / dry. ut will have another look later.

The bottom of the right shoe has been rubbing - for some reason it doesn't seem to retract as I would have expected when the adjuster is wound in?

Will have a closer look / strip later?

I just thought BT was joking but if DH agrees too.......

Are you both suggesting I should torch it? .....it might just be honey on the drum not oil - I have seen quite a few bees the last few weeks - when I get back i'll link it and let you know?

After all having had a great job done on the chassis it would be a shame for it to go up in smoke. Crying or Very sad

on a more serious note Laughing

there is a felt seal behind the washer behind the nut that can weep oil over time and the oil gets on the shoes

its a easy fix if your having the prop off I would do it any way

M90 - will have a look when I get back later but fairly sure there's no oil issues but will check all the same. Thumbs Up

Not sure what has caused that look of oil but it's dryish so not too concerned.

Will update later.
