Ignition barrel
Think my ignition barrel is failing, sometimes it's not springing back when starting and stalling the car.
Is it an easy swap
Can I get one that works with the original key?
Or do I change to a push button start? Cool its only a car!

you can't get a replacement barrel for the same key. You have to buy a new ignition barrel with corresponding doorbarrels, partnumber CWB 500620 for an ignition barrel with 2 doorbarrels and keys.
Greetings, Peter from Belgium

Just not long put a remote start switch in a Discovery 1 for a mate that's too tight to buy a new ignition switch, or renumerate for sorting him out on a Sunday night after a weekends camping Rolling Eyes Looks like I'll be busy next time he's in "trouble" Whistle

Hi All,

Reviving an older post here. It seems my 2009 defender is suffering from a similar problem...in fact two problems with the same part. (1) ignition key sticks/difficult to turn/hard to remove, and (2) when the ignition key is turned there is only a certain "place" where the starter will engage...just turning the key does not fire the engine.

A friend inspected the ignition barrel and found the black wire to be loose, apparently the male terminal at the opposite end of the ignition barrel is damaged.

I found a technical service bulletin on the stuck key issue.... Ignition Key Difficult To Rotate / Sticks LTB00414v3.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Is this a dealer fix or can an independent do it without too much difficulty?

Cheers,

Kirk
