MY15 110 Brake Issues
I'm just wandering if anyone has/is suffering with the following issues in their 2015 Defender?

I've done just over 5000 miles in mine now (it's already had a new clutch) & I've been suffering with the brakes screeching very loudly when coming to a stop below 10mph, it' a nightmare driving through cities Embarassed

The problem problem pretty much started when driving the car home from the dealer for the first time, the car had that hot smell about it, I put that down to the newness. Under 1000 miles in & the brakes were screeching, I took it back to the dealer and they cleaned the brakes, no explanation as to why they needed cleaning so soon. It did stop the screeching for a bit but not for long, the car did a few thousand miles around the Alps before I managed to get back to the dealer again with this screeching issue. Again they said the brakes needed cleaning & again no reason for it, the brakes stopped screeching for a bit & guess what they're screeching again Banging Head

Another issue I'm having, this one is the more concerning one, is that the ABS/TC is temporally engaging randomly whilst driving. I was accelerating on to the M6 up a slip road & it cut in, slowing me down.......not good, it also cuts in while driving around the local roads. I'm presuming it's the ABS/TC & not the DSC because the DSC light is not illuminating on the dash, I can also hear & feel the brake pedal rattle as if the TC is kicking in whilst driving along. To go with this the wheels are getting absolutely covered in brake dust! I did report this problem to the dealer last time it went in, they said that they'd "plugged it in" & didn't find anything.

The next step for me is to get the Land Rover mechanic in for a road test. The spawn of AndrewS

trouble with abs cutting in isn't seen as a fault by the control unit , so no fault codes will be logged

the abs unit is seeing different wheel speeds , so its a fault with one etc sensors maybe losing its reading

really it would need driving with wheel speeds monitoring while driving and see when it happens what speed readings you get at the time from each wheel

Thanks munch90,

I'm hoping the LR mechanic will have a wheel speed monitoring system he can plug in on the road test. Wheel speed sensor fault hopefully......... The spawn of AndrewS

To get really technical it should be possible to Plug in an Oscilloscope capable device. e.g. Snapon Versus and then on probe each wheel sensor and see the read out. you should see a uniform pattern as the sensor goes past the ridges on the ABS ring.

I have the same issue with screeching brakes. Been back to the dealer once and about to call them up again. Mine has done just over 4k now and been in twice under warranty. No issues with abs yet though

My '15 110 has about 4300 miles (just under 7000 km) on it and has the same squeeling brakes. no issues with ABS/TC/LMNOP

I wonder if LR have changed their brake pad supplier? I recently fitted new front OEM LR boxed pads and they started to squeal after a couple of hundred miles? The back of the pads also got a liberal coat of copper slip as did the piston fronts. As the op pointed out it only occurs below 10 mph which is annoying when driving around town. I think I will try a set of mintex pads and see how they go.

The ABS issue could be down to a sensor not being seated properly or a fault on the loom to the sensor. As it is so new get LR to fix it asap as the last thing you want is a single wheel braking at 70 mph especially if the fault is on the front axle. Shocked

Plugging in a diagnostic tool will give live data to what is activating the ABS and if it is a wheel speed sensor you know we're to start. The below screenshot is of the Wabco D ABS unit fitted to my 2009 defender. This is not the type fitted to yours but gives you an idea of the available live data.

Giving an up-date on Carl's behalf.

It would appear that the front brakes randomly apply themselves individually or both together. This can be felt through the steering wheel as the car pulls in the direction of the braking wheel. As you can imagine this is quite unnerving and very dangerous.
Our dealer plugged their Land Rover lap top into the truck and went for a test drive, the braking issue was witnessed by the tecky and recorded, the data capture files have been sent to Land Rover.

Yesterday whilst on a run to Hereford the front OS brake applied its self causing the vehicle to pull towards on-coming traffic, fortunately without consequence.
Carl has now refused to drive the truck and its being recovered today to our preferred dealer. Coincidently as the arrangements were being made to recover the truck Land Rover responded to the data files they were sent. They requested that the vehicle is returned to the dealer to carry out further tests. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

This has happened on mine but only at very low speed...like pulling out of a parking bay. Dealership has replaced the sensor - but the event was so random that it will take time to see if this was the problem. Also no fault codes.

Got similar issues; the brakes are squeeling on my new MY 15 (5000km) Defender when going slow; further the ESP is cutting in very early when doing tight turns. Switching it off changes nothing, it still breaks the car at the same speeds when doing the same corner. Don't know if the issues are related. Dealer days that's normal... very annoying.
Cheers, mike
