Is there any point in putting it back on or buying a new one?

Mine's gone three years without, makes the servicing a little easier. The one downside is, mainly because it needs replacing, the serpentine belt squeals when we've been through deeper puddles. I must put the new one on I bought a couple of years ago, I may do if we have a dry day.

I don't suppose you know the part number do you? That's if yours is a td5. I could only find the number for a puma one.
Sorry just re-read your post and I think you meant a replacement belt n under tray |

I guess it's down to individual interpretation but the MOT requirements are "Check that there is a registration plate at both the front and the rear of the vehicle, and check each one for security and condition." but if it is not "likely to be misread or is not easily legible by a person standing approximately 20 metres to the front/rear of the vehicle" then you could query any failure due to it being in the front windscreen. |

@Mk1, I just left the under tray off, it had snapped just in front of the gearbox cross member, I could put a plate on it to re-instate it but as I don't drive through much brush I've just left it off. I will get round to replacing the fan, power steering, alternator belt one day. If you need the part number for that I'll dig it out. You should be able to get the plastic sump guard off Dgardels links to the Russian Rave download.

Changed brake pads on the Defender, the local dealer here in Chile wanted the equivalent of 500 quid to do it, so ordered the bits from the UK and did it myself. Removed the spacers put on by the previous owner (made the car look a bit tacky)
Got my old Disco up and running (after 6 months) and found this under it Click image to enlarge Didn't move even after getting the car started. |

Friday. Td5 passed the MOT. 4 advisories:
1. Slight play in NSF wheel bearing 2. Slight play in OSR wheel bearing 3. Play in wiper linkages (despite changing spindle boxes, and spiral cable.) 4. Play in rear seat backs. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |
