Serviced the 110 TDCi for the first time today, handy enough compared to the TD5, no bleeding of the fuel system either! First time I've seen a paper oil filter since my old man ran AEC tippers Laughing For those who understand, no explanation is needed...

Part today and part this week ....... two broken Defenders Big Cry

TD5 went in for a new clutch and DMF due to rattles knocks coming from the central gearbox area plus the odd stall in low box. Got a call Monday - 'do you know your TD5 is miss firing ?' - the answer was no. All the usual suspect were checked, new injector loom fitted a couple of months ago (looks like it was duff) and no oil in the loom or plugs so just looks like a bad loom. That resolved it partially. Then they found a couple of pulleys at the front were shot and the viscous fan had given up the will to live. Long story short, all these bits were replaced and all the knocking/banging vanished but the miss was still there. Then the ace mechanic at West Somerset LR had a look at the crank sensor - the shim was missing and giving a bad signal. That was replaced and all is well, no miss, no knocking and no need for a new clutch and DMF. Well done WSLR, they have saved me a lot of money and solved the problem.

Then to cap it all, the new 90 has thrown a fit today and the o/s rear caliper has given up the ghost, other one failed a couple of months ago. Yeovil LR to the rescue and they are changing it tomorrow.

Hopefully back to two running Defenders on Saturday Thumbs Up

Started packing for our camping trip.

Also put up the new tent and tried out the stove.

Only put a few pieces of kindling in but was almost glowing hot.

Downer being the new hannibal rack ordered arrived yesterday and upon unpacking today has dents, bents in the gutter rail and is not usable. Had planned to take both the oztent and tentipi. Also means we have no awning and a foxwing still sat on the garage floor.

Did you sign the visitors book on the Wayfarer Question

Yep the boy did that whilst I was cooking bacon sarnies in the rain. Did a few lanes today near Bets y Coed, cracking weather today, really pleasant. Rain forecast for tomorrow whilst we head out towards Barmouth and end up at Towyn

A13x,

Sounds a nightmare. I guess by the fact your sorting the tent out now you won't get chance to exchange the rack before your trip? If so is it not worth putting out a cry for help in its own thread to ask to borrow a full rack or a couple of roof bars for your trip? With bars you may not get the awning on but deffo get the tents up there.

If you were closer and mine weren't stripped down for powder coating I'd offer you mine to borrow.

If you don't ask, you don't get!!! Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Collected my 110 last night after being away to be Dinitrolled. It now has a nice shiny black bottom Mr. Green

With a bit of luck, I'll get all the side steps back later from being powder coated. Just got to find time to re-fit them all then Rolling Eyes Darren

That's not good on a new vehicle (I assume that it's the 2013 90 in your signature). What's the problem with the calipers?

Why would I be at risk to carbon monoxide poisoning in a well ventilated tent complete with a stove designed for use in a tipi that has a flue all the way out the top of the tent?

It is a design that has been proven for many years. Maybe I should stop using the stove under the gazebo too....

Yep, March 2013 90 with 2K on the clock.

Near side caliper rear caliper was not releasing and squeaking badly so was replaced.

Off side started with the same symptoms but last night it actually would not operate at all so the OSR brake was never working.

As the first one was replaced a couple of months ago it does not come as a shock that the other one has gone, probably a faulty batch out there.

Removed the front headlining to replace a missing screw that I spotted a while ago.
With the headlining removed I could could get to the missing screw and replace it. I found an old screw in a box in the shed which fitted the hole and would screw in OK.
Before replacing the screw I took the chance to clean up the seal between the roof gutter and door frame and remove the old silicone sealant and seal the gap between the top of the A pillar and roof by the windscreen.

Dug out a tube of Sikaflex and squeezed some sealant into the gap and ran it along the roof above the door.
With the sealant in the gap I tightened the screw and you could see the roof / A pillar gap close up.

For those wondering, which screw - this one

With the headlining out, I decided it would be rude not to add some sound deadening/insulation to the roof
No idea what the foam is for as I found three big sheets in a skip in excellent condition.

Before

After

Don't know how much of a difference it will make to temp/noise but I think it should help. Just the rest of the roof to do! 1999 Defender TD5 110
