Agree it will be a combination of all the newly fitted parts. But... I have only changed the diff and it is smooth as silk and as many have said there is a definitely reduction in drivetrain slack.
How did you find the steering with all the new bits? |

Think ball joints and steering UJs to begin with. If you do change the track rod ends get the greasable ones or add your own grease nipples.

Steering column to steering box has been replaced. Ball joints are a good place to start. 1999 Defender TD5 110

It is amazing the difference replacing the three TREs makes to the steering "feel".

Finally got around to fitting the Optimil quick release boss to my Momo steering wheel. Also the locking cover. Should have done this years ago but I got an old school steering lock instead.
Really easy to fit, took 30mins. Really impressed. I guess I’ll be the guy in the pub holding a steering wheel from now on Chris Click image to enlarge |

Not strictly Defender but the night heater in my Defender had decided that it was going to need sometimes 3 or 4 starts to make it kick into life and produce warm air. Sometimes it would start and produce smoke and spin the fans other times not.
On looking at the wiring I spotted a crimp connector that looked the wires had started to pull out. Cut, stripped, added some heat shrink and re-soldered the connectors and three out three times the heater has kicked in. mechanical electrical joins are good, but solder electrical joins are much much better.

Yesterday was a trip to Silverstone for a round of the HSCC event, managed 350miles to a tank or about 27mpg which was nice.
Today, started trying to trace a whistle while on boost. Checked the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler and all good, made sure the jubilee clips are nice and tight. Then moved to the inlet side. Noticed there appeared to be some oil seaping past the inlet manifold and the flange for the intercooler pipe join/faces. Cleaned the faces up and degreased, and then applied some sealant. While in the area I also cleaned the manifold temp/pressure sensor. Not sure if the join was leaking enough to allow air out underboost but its worth cleaning and resealing. Yesterday doing a few basic checks
Oil, waters etc I checked the wiper arms and noticed the passenger side wiper arm was a bit sloppy. On closer inspection two things causes sloppiness 1. The splined adapter grub screw had backed off 2. The rivet that acts as a pivot point on the wiper arm had snapped the head off and caused the wiper arm to not sit correctly and this also explains the clunk on full sweep Pics Before Click image to enlarge After a quick repair with a nut and bolt Click image to enlarge Clunking now gone 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Today I set about civilising my 110 for more family friendly use.
The 2 inch lift is coming off, fitting puma springs along with front and rear anti roll bars. The 255/85s are coming off in lieu of some 265/75’s. Factory tow bar going back on. I’ve realised I’ve not been using it as much as I should as it’s easier to jump in the D2. I’ve not done a challenging lane or off road course now for close to 2 years so I don’t need the lift or tyres. I can still lane if I want too at standard ride height. Old age kicking in |

A quick airfilter and fuel filter swap and while under the bonnet, I noticed the turbo to intercooler hose had a layer of oil on it. The hose was cleaned when I removed them the other week.
