Had 6 hours of off roading for customers this week, so it was time to put the new extreme suspension through its paces.

Tried to fir Some LED backlights to my Dash, Tried being the operative word.
The T5s Went in Ok, with exception to the rev counter which is too long to fit, I think it needs the same lighting connection as the fuel indicator and engine temperature gauges. The 509Ts were a total disaster, i spend a good 45 minuted trying to fit the damn things and i managed to get only one in before it went dark, no problems i was going to do the next one Day after. After fiddling for 40 minutes, I got the second one in. Only problem is it had the wrong polarity, no problems. I pulled it out, or so i thought. Instead i pulled the first one and now couldn't get either one in. But its ok, because the connectors snapped... Go to put the old ones in... Don't work... Whoever designed the defender VDO speedo must have been an evil genius. and whoever assembled them must be doing penance for something. Snow is forecast hereabouts this week. Bring it on. I fitted my winter tyres today.
Having been following the current thread about half shafts, whilst the wheels were off I checked for wear at the flanges. Sure enough, looks like I have found another job to add to my list. In line with what others are experiencing, the o/s wear is more prominent. |

I took the pick up shooting on Saturday and giggled as the assorted Discoveries and Range Rovers slithered all over the place on fat tyres. Standard Michelin Latitudes worked well. The Heritage also went for its third service for the princely sum of £155. Yesterday I took my son to play hockey at a tournament in Solihull, so the pick up trundled up the M5/M42. There is something quietly satisfying about using the same vehicle for chugging across muddy fields one day and pootling along the motorway the next. Good old 300tdi

I love it when these bigger, and better off road vehicles (according to Land Rover, and the owner) struggle and the “crappy” Defender just drives past
