I know the one your on about John. It wasn't too bad really, I hit it at 60 and came up it at 45 but overtook some hgvs near the top.
Unfortunately it did highlight a problem I've had for a while. My landy over boosts then goes into a safe mode, it did this half way up so I just dropped down to 3rd and let rip
I suppose the disco transfer box didn't help with progress up the hill as any hill at 50 was a struggle in 5th as it couldn't pull it. 4th was fine for everything else though just noisy!
I think my 90 has been remapped though as it really does fly but as said it does have a tendency to overboost under lots of load ie towing at speed or 80 plus solo. TBH I don't do that much of either and it accelerates like a rocket (for a defender anyway!)

Before the Disco T/C went in I could make it all the way up in 5th (ok, I was making sure I was at 60mph+ at the bottom of the hill) now I can get part way and then 4th the rest, but its noisy in 4th at 50mph. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Never seen one up close.

So Ian, I finally dragged myself up and out to the Special with the Defendoor in hand... Whistle

First of all, some indoor detail pics to show the general idea not normally seen when fitted or photographed... Thumbs Up

You can clearly see the thickness of the item and the little indentations top and bottom that do the clipping (and unclipping) actions... Cool

To fit is really simple, just offering it up, top first in my case, and then clipping in the bottom of the door, simples... Laughing

I was quite surprised at how much it sits proud of the vehicle surface, perhaps that helps contribute to their occasional loss... Idea

To remove is simply the reverse, by gently lifting from the slight cut away in the bottom the Defendoor just unclips and comes away... Wink

The door seems to clip in with a firm click and should be good to hold it in place, although I have heard of some users, whether true or not, having lost them in transit... Rolling Eyes

Although this could be either poor fitting, or the item becoming less rigid after constant use... Question

Either way, after painting mine, I am going to fit a tether strap to ensure it does not get lost, one way or the other... Mr. Green

That’s the most comprehensive review of a fuel cover I have ever seen Thumbs Up

Good idea about the tether, as I have lost a few by leaving them on the top of the fuel dispensing pumps on filling station forecourts then forgetting to put the cover back on and driving off Embarassed For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I used some fishing wire tied around the filler neck and through a small hole made in the lip from the top curve on the defendoor. It's stayed on for a year or two now and you don't have to keep hold of it while filling up. Ray

I lost one, but to be fair I got a replacement free. Now it has a strap on it. Oddly it still gets some mud in it from greenlaning.

Merlin

PS the strap is chain, that once held a light up, and I covered it with heat shrink without the heat. A simple pop rivet holds it to the car and another through the top of the plastic, the other end. It is long enough to allow it to be 'parked' on the roll cage when fuelling.

I think solo I could manage 5th, will let you know. I can start easily in 2nd with no clutch where as I've heard other people say they need slip in 1st.
With something the size of that van though I've no chance.

I really need to get this rolling roaded or similar to get this one sorted. I think a boost guage to see if it's too high as the waste gate was wound right in. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

On mine Ian and Rog ive riveted a stainless hook on the inside of the door (very defender in-keeping!) and have a cord that goes through the gap in the top of the fuel filler panel work. Reason being im on my fourth, but should be my last now its tied on Thumbs Up

Love the detailed post Rog Laughing

TBH I don't get them???

I think they are a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.
