Rumbling on braking has gone, vibrating at about 53mph has gone and did think the clunking had gone but unfortunately not!
There's a general feeling of it running smoother but not clunking not completely gone. Going to try and get A frame ball joint swap this week hopefully and see if that sorts and if not then in my eyes there's only two things it could possibly be; The clutch Or (and granted this is clutching at straws)....the prop. Where the prop extends this is initially stiff / sticks then moves smoothly freely but should it stick? And more to the point would it make any difference? Just while I think incase this gives anyone a clue as to what the problem could be....when moving and changing from neutral into gear it like I've not depressed the clutch far enough and it's a slight struggle to get it into gear and goes in with a clonk (can do it on the move too but is most noticeable when stationary)? IF the rear axle was out of line cos the ball joint was shot click this in away impact on the clutch (I cant see how but what do I know?). Might change my signature for 'getting there'. |

You stopped being paranoid? Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I'm not gonna lie or try and scare you but my double cab is in the dealers for this exact problem, The mechanic from landrover (not my dealer, actually from Land Rover) took it for a test drive and confirmed there's something wrong so he said the only thing to do was strip the gearbox down and take a look at what's going on inside... I'll let you know how I get on when they've had a look. |

Done over two hundred miles today and all good with the exception of last 15 miles wherever there has been evidence of of things down down hill. Is it possible the clutch plate wouldn't slide along shaft but get stuck and hence very heavy clutch pedal? ... so my thoughts are for whatever reason the clutch isn't moving back n forth properly hence not fully disengaging therefore poor gear changes, engine ecm isn't seeing a no torque situation and not doing the gear harmonisation etc? But why? |

When you press the clutch pedal the pressure plate moves away from clutch plate , so no it cant make it heavy

So other than the pedal itself what could cause the pedal to have so much resistance and then to move freely?...

Yes clutch replaced but 'this issue' remains?
It seems the issue relates to the actuation of the clutch? |
