Perhaps not to relevant to the general theme of this thread but ....
I have just come back from 6 weeks in Spain in my Puma 90. I have a list of mods that i would like to look into as a result of this journey. Cruise control is one of them (Plus decent wind screen washers, sort out the mirror blind spot, better ICE and torage needs some more thought) But, one of the issues I found on long journeys is that after a couple of hours I find myself getting mildly drowsy I normally drive through it after about half an hour or so (Air con on full, windows down, red bull, normally clears it, I would stop immediately if I thought there was any danger of dozing off or not reacting on the road correctly). With even less to do when driving has anyone found that Cruise control encourages drowsiness? |

I was a bit concerned about this most of my long distance European trips have been done on a motorbike (not much chance of falling asleep). As I mentioned earlier in this topic I have just driven to Venice with the Mobile Centre cruise control, but did not experience any drowsiness. I found although there was large distances you can travel with the cruise control set you were still very alert and had to make adjustments to the speed (just using the stalk) because of catching slower traffic and not being able to overtake.

I bought mine from defender tuning in Austrailia. Dirk is pretty darn easy to work with and his stuff ALWAYS works. This cc is really amazing considering its not stock.

When I got back from the Alps this summer I looked into it and general feeling across the internet is that cruise control does cause drowsiness. I read that accidents caused by a driver falling asleep involved a high percentage of cruise controls being on. But that doesn't mean you have to have it switched on. If you felt you were beginning to get drowsy you could turn it off to give yourself something else to do. I found the range of the 110 (about 300 miles) was just about right to stop for coffee and a snack. I experienced much less fatigue than when driving my Smart. |

Agree - I'm sure many of us have access to other vehicles with CC.
I do a (almost) weekely 400 mile round trip to Blackpool from Edinburgh for work, and also up and down the A9 between Perth & Inverness.... CC is a wonderful addition! It's great in average-speed-camera sections because it stops you creeping over the 40/50mph, and it's much easier for long journeys on the M6 (in the evening when there's not much other traffic) when you're tired after a long day in the office. I use it all the time in the Volvo, and will - at some point - add it to my Defender Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Got my Scheelmann's from Dirk, he's a good bloke mate. I want a CC for my truck, my bloody legs swell up after driving more than 1k/miles at a go. Its a burger because it take few days before they go down again. |
