Glyn, with the help of your photos the mystery is solved!
I noticed comparing your pics to my Defender that the passenger side was the same as yours but on the driver's side the 'wing' of the seat was further back than it should be and the seat was 1.5" wider. I took the fabric skin off the seat back (much easier than I expected) and found that the shaped foam inner had split on the side near the door where it fits over the armature of the seat. This had pushed it sideways and allowed it to slip backwards. It also explains why every now and then my right hip would meet something very solid inside the seat - the exposed frame! Since my seats aren't heated I have repaired the foam with a generous application of "black nasty", refitted the fabric, and now not only is there room for the hoop but the seat's more comfortable too! So please accept my thanks! |

just a quick question not really worth its own thread. Has anyone ever had a 60th anniversary style cage made up?
I fancy going soft top (in the future not soon!) and I think a 60th style roll cage would be awesome in black. Anyone seen one? Ta |

Glynparry25 - did you consider putting any rollcage padding on the internal tubes? It would be maddness to survive being crushed in a rollover only to crack your skull open on the tube.

I have been tempted to several times.... but never get around to it ........ Plus I doubt it would do much damage anyhow -

Resurrecting this thread to avoid starting a new one.
This week I placed an order for a Safety Devices L148 roll cage. Is the Camel Trophy one but compatible with rear bench seats on the 90. However, I'm having some second thoughts after seeing so many full external cages. Anyone can comments the pluses and minus of each type? I want to add a roof rack. With the L148 I'l just get a Brownchurch type to complete the Camel look. Everyone says that attaching the rack to the full external cage is the bees knees but I'm yet to see that with a rack that goes the full length of the roof or doesn't costs an arm and a leg. Any comments? |

I was down Merzouga in Morocco and a german registered 90 soft top with an external cage was turning right and didn't get out of the way fast enough and an old Mercedes lorry clipped the rear corner and rear body caught the cage ...rear corner wasn't too bad and xmember straight but it pushed the whole cage forward - destroying the back body and front wings- it went back to Germany on a trailer it was so bad.
In that case a Camel cage would of been better. |

I'm sure it will transform it.
Much respect for the build and finishing it, the ups and downs, deciding if you're going to keep it etc. As I'm 80% done on mine I appreciate what went into yours |

I have the L148 type cage, and I wish I'd got the full external cage. I use my 90 for green laning and I've bashed the rear sides and roof a few times, which a full cage would have protected. A full cage would also give me extra options for storing waffle boards and roof rack fitting. Cheers Simon |
