Have you thought of having the Original Powder coated? or is it too far gone?

Yes you're correct, there is no need for the feed from the battery.

Just take the feed from the main beam, to the switch, then to terminal 85 on the relay.

I have the Mantec ones, discrete, very strong(saved me a few times) and they'll stop your doors getting scratched/dented in the car park
