That is likely caused by a poor connection between the fuse and the terminals.
This leads to heat and melted stuff as you have found out.
The terminals can be dropped out the back of the fusebox hol ...

If memory serves correctly you should be able to access the tip of the cam lobe.
Mind you this was a 3.5 and I don’t know if the 3.9 is the same
