I've just renewed mine, the premium this year went from just under £300 to just over £410, and increase of 38%. The same insurer insures my Disco2 which I renewed a month earlier, that increased by 15%.
Naturally I questioned this, the next best figure the broker could find was over £700. It seems it is a reflection of the cost of repairing and replacing Defenders. Perhaps the cost of mending the new Defender is being passed on. This is a specialist broker who's had business from me for at least 35 years. I'm sorry to say your post has made me a whole lot happier! |

Try A plan, site sponsor, but phone the correct office https://www.defender2.net/forum/a-plan-insurance-vf47.html
Premiums have gone up, and one area to blame is electric vehicles,. What was considered a relatively small amount of repairable damage to an internal combustion engined vehicle is now a write off for an electrical vehicle . This is because the batteries are part of the structure and it’s hard to be certain they are not damaged. This means that cost is passed on across all vehicles as it may be the fault of the ICE vehicle causing an electric vehicle write off. And electric vehicles are expensive. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/electr....html[url] https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/electr...n-off.html |

Thanks Ian,
Unfortunately A Plan gave the worst offer! I dealt with the Bletchley office. |

When we renewed my wife's Velar a couple of months ago she bought the premium down by reducing the annual milage to 10k a year (due to three days working from home) and increased the voluntary excess from £100 to £250.
Prices elsewhere were either higher than the original renewal or they wouldn't quote directly but would quote via a broker. The other thing that i noticed is that some of the brokers that would quote were using insurers that i hadn't even heard of, probably Lloyds of London. But that didn't inspire confidence so we were happier to stay with the NFU. My 90TD5 didn't go up much more than I've experienced before. Interesting about the comment re electric vehicles as i was reading recently that accident damaged EV's will soon have to be stored spaced out due to the fear of fire. And hence this will increase premiums. Unfortunately for the consumer the rise of online quotes for convenience has put everyone into boxes and there is no longer personalised insurance or even an insurance underwriter for the broker to call for support or a discount. Years ago when i was working as an account manager for an insurance company i got to see a number of brokers specialising in personal lines (home / car / CV). The thing that stood out was that they were mostly kids on the phones, 17 to 23 on average with no real life experience and probably still living at home and probably only insure their own car. They don't need experienced staff, they just need to read the questions on the computer screen and have the chat to get the credit card. And when they say 'i'am just checking the market or i'll speak to my manager' that is BS. They have a list of premiums in front of them and they are told to quote the business with the insurer that they have a deal with and are paying the most commission. The 'i'll speak to the manager' is them offering an alternative quote as something is better than nothing, then the renewal the following year is them moving the business over to get more commission in the hope the consumer doesn't question it. |

You really need to deal with the Thatcham office for the best prices for Land Rovers. Mine went up from £344 to £409 this year, about 19%, after being pretty static for several years previously. Seems to be the way of the world at the moment. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? I've had similar experience for this years renewal.
For the last couple of years we've had a multi-car policy which was cheaper than 3 seperate policies, plus far easier to manage, but it jumped from £1200 to £1900. I rang A-Plan to quote just the Defender and they wanted nearly £2.5k!! I've shopped around and those lovely meerkats found me 3 policies for the same price as last years. Mine was in the region of £250 this year, starting January. I don't think that's too bad, fully comp, agreed value, business use, 12k limit and they'll hold on to my NCB, in case I want it for something else. It's be a company called Brentacre who do modified car insurance.
Just over two years ago, so Jan '21, I paid £85 fully comp for my 110. |

I've been on a Multi car plan with LV for a few years now and its been pretty good up until this year.
my 3 cars on his policy went from just under £900 to £1,350. My old Defender didnt go up too much, the biggest jump was on my new one. but on looking around I wasnt going to save a great deal so stuck with LV for now at least. I renewed my 90’s policy a few weeks ago, and it actually was £50 less than the 2022 renewal. Charlie

Apart from A-plan what are people using?
My renewal quote has over doubled despite being secure parked and heavily security modified. Seems a shame and A-plan were really apologetic. They just said lots of insurers that used to insure defenders no longer do. |

I've just had my renewal quote and its gone up 242% from last year.
90 Defender, 4000 miles per year, I'm 67 years old, vehicle parked on a locked driveway with added security. Only 2 years no claims though (double that of last year mind ) I have had lower quotes from confused.com but they're still £180 more than last year > (£328.56) Of course I'm one of the 'lucky' ones who pay the high road tax as well. Its getting to the point where it's costing about £1200 before the cars turned a wheel!!!! Go compare was steep too so time to try the meerkats. I've read all the A-Plan blurb but by what people are saying it all seems a load of hot air imho. I was going to try them but perhaps I wont bother. Oh by the way my motorcycle insurance also went up this year........ by 71p......nuff said. |
