you could cram the proper mini into the BMW thing and have room to spare, plus the bmw thing cannot be as fun to drive as the proper mini either, not really sure if the bmw will have the classic buzz either, even though its been going on since 2001. Yeah that not actually a new mini, its a paceman which is based on the BMW X1 platfrom. BMW Mini folk aren't even the biggest fans of the Maxi ones. I've had three BMW Minis (Cooper and two Cooper S's) and they are pretty close to the vibe of the mini, handle well, go pretty well and take a few choice modifications. Being 6'4 and a bit I don't fit in a classic mini that well. My Cooper S was enough to convince the chap in the unit next to me who was a die had BMW Mini hater (he had a very nice 1973 Cooper S) that actually they were pretty good, my S was running north of 240bhp, 150kg lighter than stock and on suspension developed by Penske, it was a probably the best set up car ive ever driven. John Barker from EVO spent a day chasing Harry's Zonda round Bedford in it and claimed it to be one of the best hatches hed ever driven. I still have my Cooper, I've had it since it was new 20 years ago, its just in the garage at home having a full rebuild. back in its hayday lurking around my old unit just before I put the plates on and went for its 1st mot. My aunt used to have one as she had polio and she used to take me, my brother and sister all over the place in the 60's, even though technically it was only intended for one person There's still a couple on the road, there's a guy on youtube who has one and uses it regularly Cheers Ian -------------------- 22MY Defender 110 D200 SE, Fuji White. I have had this gem since 2007, its one of the last of the 3 door models, after the Y plate, the 5 door got the 51 plate, and the estate got the 02 and maybe 52 plate. In its prime Sadly she needs bodywork doing, and a good clean underneath and those wheels back on. I am suspecting that this one maybe the only one, that still survives from our north east meets from pug306.net days. (Forum is sadly long gone, and the owner club is still on line, but no one posts on there now, and the admin was looking at locking the forum to read only, The gti6 forum had talks of shutting down, but i think that changed Admin/ owners which kept it alive, and i believe is the only active forum on these cars. Facebook groups have took over, People on there will not search the forums 1st at all, when there was threads and threads about jobs etc. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Now I'm mostly retired I'm going back over old projects and sorting them out. First is to fix the garage roof which means clearing the garage out and then sorting out the Mini. The garage roof has been leaking onto the Mini for years and really-really luckily, I think the car is mostly OK. There's a bit of furring on the aluminium engine parts (clutch cover, thermostat housing etc). I've not turned the engine over yet as that's a job once the roof is fixed but the car rolls freely which is good news.
My contribution to cars you don't see on the road anymore (hopefully to be seen on the road soon, it's 30 years old next year so that's the target) is my Mini. Click image to enlarge |

I haven’t seen an old VW Beatle on the road for a long while. Come to think of it I haven’t seen the new version for a while either.
