If nothing else, this thread has reminded me how many God-awful cars we've had on the roads in my lifetime!

with me been 37 years old, its mad to think that i have seen some models come and go, like the Citroen Saxo. Most of the lads and lasses who i left school, had those as 1st cars, a long with the mk1 and 2 clios, my mate though keeps tempting me with metros
looked at a few on ebay to see what why and when, £2000 gets you a shed!! My old GTA 16v i picked up for £180, and my very 1st one for the same price, and that one wasn't a shed at all. Remember autovacs and magnetos?
I'm sorry to say that I do, but only because my dad was into vintage cars. |

I saw an Austin A35 the other week in the New Forest.
It made me smile as my dad had one and let me drive it once prior to me taking my test. it had pop out indicator stalks I think I also think this car had a hand crank to start it if the battery died, I know it broke his arm on one occasion when it back fired. my first car was a Ford Anglia, 105E ( I think) and that had 3 forward gears and vacuum pump windscreen wipers that slowed down as you went faster, pretty scary in a heavy rain storm Defender D250 HSE Dender 110 XS - sadly gone VW Polo VW Caravelle - Gen 6 |

Our ‘family’ car was an Austin A35 van when I was a little one - I loved it and cried my eyes out when it was sold on in 1974 - to be replaced by…

I nearly spilt my tea! Dude, you need to get a Series 1. Positive earth, dynamo, SU electric fuel pump, trafficators, original intermittent wipe (i.e., most of the time it doesn't work), no heater, and best of all a starting handle! If you really want an interesting experience, try driving a quality pre-1931 car such as a "WO" Bentley, with the accelerator in the middle and no synchromesh. |

I hear you Nick, that beep cuts through to the soul. The independent I use has obtained the original diagnostic equipment which he wraps in cotton wool. I do wonder if someone will develop replacement BECMs in time……it can’t be *that* difficult… |

Tesco car park yesterday in Suffolk, Lotus Esprit in immaculate condition, it wasn’t on fire or anything!
Couple in their 60s got out and went shopping, I think it was his pride and joy as he kept turning round to look at it across the car park! “a committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but as a group decide nothing can be done.” |
