KN Predator
Hi All,

I am lead to believe the wheels on my Defender 110 are made by KN (which it appears are no longer trading as far as I can tell) and are the Predator model in a 17" Alloy Wheel (see image below).

All 4 of the wheels are really old and tired (chipped paint, oxidation etc.), and could do with a refurb - but then again, so are the nuts. One of the nuts is missing from the spare, and I have had no luck finding the "specialist" nuts:-

funrover.com wrote:
the nut actually wraps around the stud and is sandwiched between the wheel and stud

Does anyone know where I may be able to get hold of these nuts, so I can get the wheel refurbished, or am I better off cutting my losses, selling these wheels, and getting new wheels?

Thanks in advance Smile
Kieren

Have you tried a standard defender alloy wheel nut?

I run the same wheels on my 130.

A standard wheel nut doesn’t fit at all, the nuts seem to be special to the wheel.

I believe that these wheels were only sold in the UK by John Craddock (I bought a set in 2003 from them) so it might worth speaking to them.

Let me know how you get on if you do please.

Yeah, I ordered a full set to replace them not having the sense to check them first

Will give them a message in the morning, will let you know if I hear anything. John Craddocks do come up when you google the wheels but as a discontinued item, which is why I wonder if KN Alloys are still trading at all.

You could get some like Wrington to make them for you, not sure of the cost. Just an idea.

If they are 24mm, Twisted do them to fit their sports wheels and look like they are the same as yours.

You'll have to shell out £130 though

Have you checked the alloys are load rated for your 130? Most alloy wheels aren't as they need to have at least a 1100kg rating. 110s don't need that high a rating as the rear axle has a lower weight capacity.

Still too short sadly, I'd looked at these. Almost the entire thread is covered by the cylindrical part, then the entirety of the head sits proud from the wheel.

The wheels need a refurb anyway, so I may just cut my losses, get some new wheels, and sell these wheels and nuts to someone on the cheap for them to refurb and tidy up the existing nuts. By the time you take tyres out of the equation there isnt a lot to be saved.

Thanks for the suggestions, Will drop a line to Wrington about a cost for having some machined, checked the website and they don’t have the relevant ones “off the shelf”
