"Kermit" My 110 Hardtop
Hi All,
I've been meaning to do this since I first set up a login for this forum but with one thing and another I keep forgetting, so here goes.

2007 2.4 TDCi
110 Hardtop
Chawton White

This is how I bought it:-

(Excuse the green circle, this was me pointing out the drivers door paint issue to my sister)

It had previously been converted to a Camper.

My Journey Begins Here...

I have since stripped all of the camper conversion out after finding a few "dodgy" things (nails missing wood and going out through the roof, screw holes with nothing in, that kind of stuff) and tidied up the paintwork on the floor. I have (for now) sorted all holes with sealant but will look to have these properly done in due course.

I have then also put sound/thermal insulation on the floor in the back (but with I had removed the load bed runners before hand now)



I have also:-
Removed the tired Land Rover badge and Defender Sticker
Removed the tired and rusted ladder
Changed from all clear LED Tails to Coloured LED Tails
New Rear Number Plate

Removed a shabby old red and white "diesel" sticker and replaced with a metal badge

Re-inforced the striker plates

Removed KBX Front End (not my cup of tea) and replaced with LED Headlights, and Santorini Black standard front end.

Had drivers door sorted



Had damage to rear 1/4 panel sorted



Have also completed the following:-
- Tidied VSR Split Charge Wiring
- Earthed leisure battery to Chassis (previously looped back to Starter Battery Negative)
- Repaired the seized FM antenna
- Installed a CB Antenna Mount/Wiring
- Applied Kurust to some surface rust (prior to going to the bodyshop)
- Replaced Fuel Cap as the existing had no keys
- Installed Sidesteps
- Removed the one mudflap
- Replaced lever end of bonnet release catch (I'll do the other half in due course, before it snaps!)
- Removed spurious wiring


Things still to complete (in no particular order):-
- New Galvanised Chassis (more want than need, but longevity and all that)
- Full Respray, because I am fickle
- Install full length headlining
- Reinstall/wire the CB Radio
- Wire in Auxbeam unit
- Install vinyl flooring in the rear
- Install Bed/Cabinets in rear
- Sort cooking arrangements in rear
- Gullwing Windows in rear
- Finish Sound Deadening in the rear
- Wire in Diesel Heater
- New Ladder
- Interior Lights in Rear
- Make removable bulkhead (from reduced bulkhead to ceiling to eliminate need for curtain)
- Winch Bumper and Winch (maybe)
- Replace Steering Guard with Black (ORE?)
- Fit 270° awning
- New wheels (these are shot, and have weird nuts)
- Replacement Interior
- Revert Carpet to Rubber in Cab for ease of cleanliness (and easier if water gets in)


So yeah, I have big plans.

And if you are still with me, the Elephant in the room - why "Kermit"? Simple really, my dad passed away at Christmas last year and left me some inheritence, his nickname was Kermit (dont ask me why) so we decided to name the car after him. It was "Kermit the Camper" until I ripped it all out, but that will return.

I've never seen door striker reinforcement before. Why are these needed?

Nice! And like Steveww I'm curious about the door striker plates? Do they stop you from ripping jeans/expensive barbour coat back pockets etc as you exit and enter? (how many times have I done that....) 90 - Gone but not forgotten

The B pillars are prone to splitting/cracking (you can just about see a hairline crack in the picture) from the repeated impact of the latch hitting the striker. These spread the load to a larger surface area and help prevent it happening (or in my case, getting worse)

They're £25 each, but worth it, in my opinion, if it prevents a common issue.

Just off of ebay, simple search for "Defender Striker" and these came up.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295303390553

Only caveat is that they arent as thick as the OEM Plastic plinth, so you'll need shims.

Mini Update.

After many weeks of resistance, I have finally managed to replace the cross member bolts. You will know all about these from my post in the Puma forum.

Its a small change , but thought I would add in here for completeness. I have also since my last post removed the "extended" tow bar, and will eventually replace with either the standard tow bar or a NAS Step. I've also started making provisional enquiries around the supply and fit of a galvanised chassis.

Nice bit of kit that. I have always hated the OEM plinth. How are these for adjustment? or are they fixed in one position?!

The photos on the listing are terrible for clarity.

They are fixed in one place, due to the highest and lowest fixing point needing you to drill holes. I got around this by drilling a hole slightly larger that is needed (I think the bolts are M6 and I drilled M8 ) and then that at least allows a degree of adjustment - just not as much as the shims/OEM "slots" in the B Pillar.

I'd also advise getting shims if you get these as they seem thinner (only marginally) than the OEM striker plate plinth.

Last night, with nothing on TV and nothing better to do I made a start on tidying up the sealant on the wheel arches. When it was applied it was just wiped on for ease and to ensure it adhered.

Now with the help of a number plate removal “scraper” for sticky pad number plates and a bottle of Acetone, we are on the journey to just the holes being filled.

Thanks @BaronDefenders.

UPDATE: As an extension to my post of 24th, I last night spent a further 4.5 hours with a litre of Acetone in the back of my 110, finishing up what I started, this also included the contact adhesive from the old carpet this time too. Below is the before and after. I've also (although I have no pic) replaced the rubber washers with Nylon thanks to @LandRoverAnorak's suggestion.
