Aftermarket Amplifier In Standard Sound System - Help

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out how to wire in an aftermarket amplifier into a D90 2023. I couldnt get the meridian sound, so I have standard sound, and aware of the location of the factory amp, but figure out line input wiring is proving to be so painful. Does anyone have any advice on this, I have found some wiring diagrams but since have not made any sense to them as I have no sub and alot of them refer to having sub wiring output from amp, but its the inputs I am struggling to figure out!!!!!!!

Hi Aaron, just to clarify, you want to install an amp and keep the standard speakers?

Yes! I then will upgrade the speakers and sound deaden at a later date.

Its relatively easy. You need to make a decision on what spec speakers, then this will determine your amp or vice versa. They need to be ‘power matched’. If you need more info on this, then let me know. Do you have a spec in mind?

You can buy amps with both RCA connector inputs from your head unit, or take the speaker output from you system. If you are really struggling with your wiring, then i would go the latter route and use the speaker output and connect these to the amp then on to your new speakers.

Potential issues;
Baring in mind its a 2023 Defender and i assume having a invaluable warranty, i would be careful not to cut the wiring and use proper connectors. It may be worth seeking professional help as if you pay an approved audio centre, you will have recourse if it goes t1ts up.
