New Land Rover Defender SVX spotted with performance upgrade
New Land Rover Defender SVX spotted with performance upgrades: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/d...e-upgrades

"... The big changes come beneath the window line however. The flared wheel arches are needed because they house some chunky BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres on a new alloy wheel design. The suspension has also been raised up for extra ground clearance and it’s almost certain the spring rates have been adjusted for off-roading too.

At the front there’s camouflage covering the front bumper and grille - suggesting this SVX model will gain a new face, in a similar fashion to the SVX versions of the old car. The front and rear lights look unchanged from the standard model.

The powertrain sitting underneath the beefed up bodywork is a mystery. The most obvious choice is the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 from the Defender V8, producing 518bhp and 625Nm of torque. Our images show a quad-exhaust tip set up, but the backbox looks different to the Defender V8 and the tips are set a little further back into the body work. Only time will tell if this Defender has actually made use of Land Rover and BMW’s engine partnership, borrowing the German firm’s 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8. ..."

Sadly, Autoexpress got the tyre details wrong.

The flared wheel arches are needed because they house some chunky BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres.

They're BF Goodrich Trail Terrain tyres, fine for an SUV, but not as tough as the AT that comes as standard fitment on a Bronco Raptor or a Wrangler 392.

Defender BEV in disguise? I know that it has very fouled up exhaust pipes but that could be part of the disguise………. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I think Tim maybe correct. According to .Gov website it shows zero CO2 emissions and cubic capacity as n/a. Also no details of fuel type. Defender 90XS SW

Gov website doesn’t have many details for it at all though - including type approval. So I guess it’s just because it’s a prototype rather than a BEV.

You can see the heat discolouration on the system as its stainless. Most of the SVR's have a stainless system, usually built on contract by Birchills or Janspeed.

It’s a 518bhp V8

Prototypes are often registered with no engine details to stop people looking up engine specifications.

It’s the AJ-V8 same as in the P525, no doubt tweaked for the SVX version.

275/60/20 is a lot of tyre in those wheel wells!

Would be good if there is a LR-approved (whether or not officially available) way to lift the car and/or modify the wheel arches etc to handle them.

I wouldn't expect they would use lift rods for example...? Cheers, David

Skeptical about that - the exhaust clearly has 2 pipes so almost certainly a V engine not an inline.

Test mules and prototypes are often a real hodge podge though so wouldn't bank on any online data (from e.g. gov't or LR themselves) to be exactly right. Cheers, David

The front under that disguise looks like the Bowler racers.

have they got anything to do with modifications?
