Hi, left my 110 in to get power spring installed by a local garage only to be told that both bushes broke when installed. Anyone else come across this problem?

The little plastic bushes can be fragile, that's for sure. These springs can be a nightmare - on some vehicles they 'drop right in' whilst others put up a significant fight. I've done two now and experienced both ends of the spectrum Darren

Thanks! I just don't get why the bushes would break?

Probably because, on some vehicles, it can take significant force to get the spring in. Darren

just saw this thread and some of the comments on fitting being a nightmare. after trying for 30 mins to no avail, i cable tied the spring together after cramping it in a vice and it literally just slotted into place in less than 10 seconds!!!
cable ties is a must for this mod. (sorry if someone already said this but i didn't want to go through 14 pages to check!) Last edited by Will.I.AM on 28th Feb 2023 12:52pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Surely pre-compressing the spring and using cable ties to hold in a compressed position would help?
I'm suspicious a screw driver may have broken them when trying to wedge the spring into position. |

I'm not sure what else to tell you - it can happen. Do you know if your local garage had fitted one before? If they hadn't, did you talk to them about how to do it? If you're confident that they should have known how to do it then you can only go back to them. Darren

well I have had one of these in my garage for several years, I had cleaned off the paint from the 2 ends and failed twice to fit it.
Today a bit more motivated by a complaining knee it almost fell into place using the thin mole grip and screw driver method (no ties) It took longer to remove the old one than fit the new one!!!. Only driven it back and forth but it is clearly lighter DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Had mine fitted for nearly two years now, also replaced the master cylinder with the LOF version. Makes a massive difference.

So at last the spring is fitted. Took the mechanic several attempts but its in.
And wow what a difference. If you don't have this fitted you are missing out on one of the cheapest and best upgrades!!! 5 STAR |

I’m not completely happy with the spring. When pressed it feels like a two step action. First part rather without feeling and then a more normal feeling. Does anyone recognize this and is it a problem or is it a feature? And if a problem what to do about it? a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover
