You will probably need spacers but definitely need to adjust the lock-stop. Jeff Ex 1968 Series 2A Ex 90 TD5 Ex D3 Ex D4 |

Just a quick point that nobody seems to have made re: the larger diameter tyres v fuel consumption issue....
With the bigger tyres, your mileometer/odometer will be recording less miles than it was previously (not that they are ever particularly accurate IME) so regardless of the true mpg figures, on paper it will appear to have suddenly worsened by a few percent at least, unless you factor in a correction for the tyre size change. Some manufacturers actually publish a figure for this based on revolutions per mile for each size, which can give you a useful indication if you are not fluent in tyre'ese. |

Hey friends, I have a set of 16” sawtooths and 30mm spacers on the way. I am thinking of trying 285/75’s but my rig is stock height… anyone you running this setup have it working on a stock height Defender? Thanks 1989 Defender 90

RV8'S of any capacity including 5.2 or supercharged are hopeless with tall gearing they actually drive much better with 1.4 transfer gearing |

Yes - I’ve got 285/75/16s on Bowlers with 30mm spacers (or maybe 25mm?) on my standard height 90 puma and no problems. If I have a load of weight in the back (3 blokes and a couple of dogs) it will occasionally touch at the back around corners but i don’t do that often! Great tyre size for the defender imo and BFG AT2S are brilliant off and on road Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
