Seems like I got ripped off the most by JLR Antwerp (Metropool) here in Belgium. They called me two times to ask whether I "really wanted the oil and filter changed already" and then ended up charging me EUR 520 for it.
I checked with a smaller workshop first but they said they couldn't do it as they did not have the tool for it(???). They used to work on my Jaguar XF but they said they can't work on the new Defender. |

Sounds like they've done a full service at that price and not just an oil change. From the videos I've seen on YouTube there are no special tools but I will defer to those with more technical expertise on that front.

Completed the oil change today having closely followed Umberto's excellent video. So pleased I did it at 13 months / 6,009 miles. I was surprised at how black the oil was.

Can the oil be changed by extraction like on the Range Rovers? I purchased an electric pump, 12v , which connects over the oil dip stick tube. Run the pump and oil goes straight to waste container. Simpler and cheaper than the vacuum extraction pumps.

Yes, that's how I did it, by extraction albeit hand pumped rather than electrically. Here's the video I followed:

I've done 8000 miles since the end of October so I'm also thinking about doing my first oils change.
Looks pretty straightforward. |

I just went and paid for the dealership to do a change, I had a coupon so it wasn't too much more than buying the required (massive : ) amount of the recommended oil and the vacuum pump setup.
I figured that not having to deal with the old oil and cleaning up the spill I would have transferring the old oil to a new container to recycle/dispose of properly and not having to clean up the pump was worth a few bucks : ) I know that per LR's service recommendations that this wasn't strictly necessary but I sure do sleep better at night now! Oil is cheap, an engine is not : ) |

D250 at 6000 miles. Went to my local independent Land Rover specialist. Full spec oil service, filter, and entered on LR electronic service History £155. Plan to do this every 6000 miles as do lots of short journeys and want to look after the engine and avoid problems due to oil dilution from failed DPF regenerations.

Engine oil in a diesel will go black very quickly, sometimes almost immediately. lt doesn't mean the oil has had it, just means it's doing its job.
Nevertheless l would never leave the oil change for 20,000 miles. l plan to change it every 10,000 with the first oil change at around 6,000 The lngenium 3.0 diesel doesn't suffer from oil dilution due to failed DPF regenerations. |

Spec ??, vague , with a brand new car.. And Reset.. There is absolutely no reason to reset at this mileage. Have you seen and checked the oil they used ? Suppose not the original Castrol Landrover Titanium, bla, bla. ( Over £100,- /£120,- minimum wholesale) Incase something will happen with your engine you would void your warranty. Don't reset in between ( early oil changes/ refresh) wait on the car to display. Just my 2 cts/penny. That’s good news as it was a problem in my last BMW kept exceeding sump oil level Max. Absolute pain especially as no proper dip stick in X1 BMWs.

That's good advice not to reset the service indicator.
The fact that you did your own oil change could theoretically void your warranty. lf you are still worried about it, get the oil changed by a reputable indy and keep the receipt |

If you use the correct spec oil and filter etc. then it cannot affect your warranty. Besides you’d not actually tell them and they’d never be able to find out, so long as you leave the computers alone.
