Help us evolve the features of the Defender eMail
today I, and many others, received this eMail.

As the automotive industry goes through exciting times, we at Land Rover are always looking for ways to improve our products to meet the changing needs of our customers. We are particularly interested in the value of our customer offering for features we add to our luxury vehicles.

In defining the future, it is vitally important that we understand your needs and opinions. It is for this reason that we have embarked on a major piece of global customer research that aims to consult with Defender owners like you.

Our questionnaire opens on 20th January and closes on 1st February, please click below and complete the questionnaire within this timeframe.

With your valuable contributions, we will be much better equipped to develop future products that meet the expectations you have of Defender.

If it's anything like the one they did a few years ago, it'll be asking what colour the interior lights should be and whether it's important to be able to post directly to Instagram from the onboard cameras Rolling Eyes Darren

And this is why JLR has been employing ex Twitter and Facebook staff.

They are behind on modernising the fleet. They have no money, they haven’t made a profit since 2018, people are fed up with the reliability, thefts, and dealer attitudes, and we all know that current EV only range in big heavy vehicles is a joke compared to diesel.

But hey we now have T.w.a.t.book rejects to fill up your inbox.

At least they won’t accuse me of sitting on the fence….. Whistle

Things must be getting really bad at JLR if they are only now considering the customers to be worth asking what’s needed to make the cars competitive.
I have 2 suggestions - stop loading them up with unnecessary trinkets and start to build them properly so long suffering customers don’t have to keep returning them for warranty work. Mine has now returned to the dealers for 15 unplanned visits in 2.5 years to fix things that should not have got passed the QC inspectors and one scheduled service - in comparison my electric Mini hasn’t been near the dealers in the 15 months and 8000 miles I’ve owned it and the Mini Countryman PHEV I owned before the Defender had one recall for a replacement sticky label on the granny charger and one scheduled service in the 2 years I owned it…… Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Every time in the recent past that I can remember JLR asking public/customers for their views, JLR has then completely ignored those views and done whatever it was going to do anyway.

Clearly they must have lost the hundreds of suggestions that people were leaving at the end of Defender factory tours ..

Ah Blackwolf, its a tick box exercise that the bosses have passed down to their subordinates as part of their annual KPI (Key Performance Indicators).

Kind of reminds me when Surrey County Council sent out a referendum to those residence along the route of the Prudential Ride London / professional Road Race to ask if it should continue.

The vote was in support of it, so the Council then said they they wouldn't let it continue (apparently it appeared after the event that the Council wanted more money from the organisers and they said 'no'.

And Guildford Council who set up a referendum on whether or not to have a town centre congestion charge......which wouldn't allow you to say that you were a resident of Guildford.

They already know the answers that they want, they just want to make you feel like you have contributed. Because 'Your Special'.....

There's a line from BladeRunner that i always remember, 'If your not Cop, your little people'

Well, l've had no issues with my 2022 90 Commercial

Two things l would suggest, particularly on a Commercial version but applicable to all versions

1. Make the stop/start setting memorised. So if you don't want it, you don't need to turn it off every time you start the engine.

2. Make the folding mirror function switchable. As a Commercial Vehicle with multi drop and collection the mirrors are forever rotating in and out. You can manually fold them with the buttons on the door
and they stay folded. So how about if you manually open them, they stay open.

I think that TA conditions and EC law requires the stop/start to reset to "active" with every ignition cycle, because big brother knows best, so I don't think that that will ever happen as a factory option. Possibly an aftermarket hack might do it.

No it isn't, Stop/Start will only be fitted to new vehicles until 2030.
After that the vehicle and engine choices available will leave you wishing that you could just press a button to get a normally functioning petrol or diesel engine. Whistle

We need a dealer mode so you can instantly get through to customer support to let them know how 5hit the dealers are and the latest warranty claim! Twisted Evil

I've come back to Land Rover after Volvo. It's a a huge chasm of difference in dealer service, care and reliability. They couldn't be further apart!

As for the car, get it to remember your settings so that when you pre warm your car the heated seats and steering wheel come on if thats what you set. Worked a treat on the XC90. Thumbs Up

However, I have little faith. Just look at the mess the D5 was after the D3/4. All the things that made it what it was were lost. Replacing the split tail gate with a plank just summed it up Rolling Eyes LR should have done to the D4 what Mercedes did with the G-Wagon.

Anyway, nothing will change, Jerry knows best. Thud

Moo, my electric Mini has heated seats that warm up in the pre-condition cycle - it doesn’t have a heated front screen BUT the preconditioning uses the heat pump to warm the cabin to 23C in less than 20 minutes - Defender isn’t blowing warm air after the 30 minutes pre-conditioning cycle completes and the engine shuts down. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
