Tool arrived with a selection of rivnuts.

What size hole do you drill to accept the rivnut? Same size as the main body of the rivnut ? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Essentially, yes. The rivnut should be a snug fit in the hole so the nearest drill bit size. Darren

No real door updates other than I picked up a sheet of 3mm ally to use as the new door card
Hopefully Sunday will be dry and I can get some more work done. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Oooo are you going to add anything like a cooker shelf or storage?

It wasn't my original plan. But I had considered some kind of door shelf thingy. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Managed to get a bit more done today.
Got the 3mm ally sheet cut to go on the door.
Drilled the holes through the 3mm ally that will be used to attach it to the door frame.
Got all the holes drilled in the door frame.
1 rivnut done and fixed.

Then spent the next hour faffing to try and get the rest of them done.
Managed to damage the thread on the rivnut gun that takes the rivnut insertion tool.
Test fitted the new door lock but can't get the barrel housing centred in the door Sad

Saw me arse and packed in.

I think I will be replacing the rivnut tool for a new one. Sad 1999 Defender TD5 110

Managed a bit more on the door.
The original old vinyl covering was removed from the hardboard and test fitted to the sheet of ally and all in all, fits OK.
I think I have some contact adhesive to mount the vinyl/foam covering to the ally sheet. This will be mounted to the door frame via bolts/rivnuts.

At the weekend found some time to test fit the door to the car just in case and gave me a chance to compare side by side. I need to drill a 13mm hole for high level brake light wiring and also a mount for an earth cable.

I did discover the old door hinges have play - which I am going renew.
Next stop is drill holes and get the door over to paint man. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Cheers. Its coming along slowly. Working in a cramped shed or when raining slows me down a bit. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Yes I can just about fit my 90 in the garage - loaded with ballast to lower it by 5-10mm to clear the up and over door mechanism. Makes such a difference this time of year when doing ‘bigger’ jobs.

Mind you, all the ‘stuff’ I had to move out of the garage is now tripping me up.

Have you considered one of those gazebo type car shelters?

A gazebo type shelter is an option but lack of storage space to keep it.
Maybe more room once I upgrade the shed to a 10x10ft rather than a 8x10ft. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Popped into see the paint man to discuss painting the door. After a chat, I think the job has grown to whole rear end respray...
Some ally corrosion on the panel where the number plate attaches to and the same the other side.
Might as well get the job done properly and get these replaced as well. But this does delay things...

These things always happen to me

I’m sure that cost aside, it’ll be well worth it 👍
