 2003 Defender 110 Td5 G4 Challenge Tangiers Orange
Not much progress recently as I got hit by the seasonal lurgy.

However, I did get to trial fit the Bearmach n/s eyebrow and wasn’t impressed with it. So, I searched and found a complete set of LR ones that were unpainted so hoping to have another go tomorrow.

A bargain winch controller turned up on ebay and guess what…. The winch actually works so I’m pleased about that.

Final jobs are to fit the various central locking bits and bobs to make all that work and then I’ll see what the MOT man says! 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

Productive day today, I fitted the Land Rover genuine arch that I managed to find on FB marketplace and it fits perfectly. Being slightly old, it suits it too.
I got 4 of the 5 door central locking to work, just need the rear drivers side actuator screws and I can get it fitted.
Final job of the day was fitting the newer Boosts complete with G4 correct MTR tyres, makes it look a lot better.

One thing I did spot whilst fitting the wheels was this connector in the driver side rear arch. Any guesses what it should be connected to? I was thinking fuel filter…

Water in the fuel filter sensor.

Mine is the same as yours but tucked out of the way. On very wet days i used to get the flickering light on the instrument cluster.

What i have since done of mine is to wrap it into a small plastic bag and zip tied it to seal it.

Thanks for the reply, I might plug it in to see what happens but the plastic bag idea is a good one.

I’ve got the TC light on the dash which doesn’t go out so I need to get a reader to find out which sensor needs looking at. I’ll ask Santa for a Nanocom… and wait for the swearing to start from my wife! 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

Well the only thing I see between an MOT and a definite fail at the minute is the TC light.
Plugged in my faithful Foxwell NT510PRO and it didn’t reveal any clues to the fault but the GapIID that I have for the other cars refused to even communicate!
I’ll start with the abs sensors and look for obvious nasty bits or unplugged bits. It drove fine when I bought it so fingers crossed its something and nothing.

Good progress, looking tidy. Hopefully the MOT is within sight now.
Any contacts for a set of MTR's? casually got my eye out for a set for my 90. Instagram: L90andy

I spotted mine on ebay and there is a set on there albeit quite pricey for just tyres. I think Duckworths has a set on boosts for a much more reasonable price. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

A short dry spell allowed some more tinkering today. The aim is to see what’s putting the TC light on the dash. Battery has been fully charged, I tried the hard reset by removing the terminals from the battery and waiting 20 mins before touching them together. No improvement so out came the other code reader.
No error codes but it was reporting the front left inlet valve open and a canbus communication error on the engine ecu.

Hoping to get more dry spells this week to enable more investigation. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

What splendid weather?! Took the front left wheel off today to investigate the TC light issue. Removed the abs sensor, cleaned it up a little and then refitted. It was clean enough a quick wipe over was sufficient but no change to the TC light status. So, checked the wiring condition and the plug where it joins on the wing and again, all good.
Plugged in the new code reader (icarsoft 3) to read any values in the abs module and noticed the message about the LF Inlet valve being short to ground. It showed a value of 3.29V in the inlet only compared to the outlet and the RH inlet and outlet which all showed 0.07V. Unplugging the harness from the ABS block resulted in all values changing to 3.29V.

So, could anyone guess if it’s the sensor or valve block itself?
Some pics taken today including the success of the day, new winch rope fitted.

Yesterdays job was to fit a Croytech tachometer that I bought of a forum member. Decided to go for the clock position as I probably don’t need to watch it all the time due to noise of the engine.
The only sticky point is the function, it’s not measuring the revs 🤦🏻

I have followed the fitting instructions to the letter and used the yellow/pink wire in ECU pin 19 and the grey connector block behind the binnacle for the signal but alas nothing.
Upon ignition, the needle rises from rest to 0 and on start. It flicks towards 1 then back to 0 and stays there when the engine is running and revving. If anyone else had this and sorted it, I’d be grateful for details on the fix.

So, had a mooch about the forum and Clive (fellow G4 owner) gave me the solution in this thread: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic62582...p;start=30

The yellow/pink wire behind the dash isn’t the wire I was looking for…. So, spliced in the yellow/pink work at pin 19 of the ecu and lashed up a temp connection to the tachometer and……

Bingo!

Now to sort the connection properly and that bloody TC light. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

An ABS sensor arrived to day so I fitted it in the sunshine and leapt back into the drivers seat with anticipation…. Nope, TC light still present and so’s the LF Inlet valve short to ground code 🥲
Guess its looking like the expensive ABS block so for now, thats the end of the story, it’ll have to wait until I get a job. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

I’m sorry the sensor didn’t do the trick.

Don’t despair as there’s still the opportunity to explore if the shuttle valve might be the issue - and that’s circa £50 and can be replace with the ABS unit in situ (using keyhole surgery!).

I haven’t made much progress since fitting the refurbished ABS unit to mine due to health and work, but aim to get back on it this weekend. At least those 3 flippin’ amigos have left the building…

Good luck and I hope you have an inexpensive outcome 👍

Managed a temporary fix for the TC light, wonder if the mot man will buy it?
