I’ve been doing a few jobs on the G4 since coming back from a trip in to Morocco in the other G4 (D3).
Roof tent has been moved over to the defner and the Mantec cages have been reinstalled. I even gave it another polish and wax because the weather was nice! Since buying it, I’ve been mildly irritated by the fact the front cab light didn’t work so I started to have a look into why. As this was a farm truck previously, a small furry had decided the roof lining was the perfect place to make home and there was straw and food stuff, not too much in the way of mess though. So, out came the headline for a cleanup and bingo… nibbled wires to the cab light. I can sort that out easily enough but I took the opportunity to insulate the roof to help cut noise and help with retaining heat in the colder months. Maybe even help keep it cool in summer? Either way, I’m sure it’ll help. I also need roof bars so the tent can go on sideways. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled. 2002 Range Rover G4 Event car (Australian leg) 2008 Discovery 3 G4 UK Selections car 1968 Series 2a |

Earlier in the week I dug the old 270 degree awning out of the garage rafters and got it on. Does the job nicely.

Last weekend, we decided to go to the adventure overland show in Stratford. Initially the motorhome was packed as its far comfier but Facebook revealed quite a few stuck vehicles so we swapped to the Defender instead. The drive down was pleasant enough, slow compared to the D3 but I didn’t mind it as you get to see a lot more.
Set up camp and enjoyed the shows sights and had a wander around Stratford on the Sunday. The good thing about the show is chatting to folks that run adventure tours in person… you quickly decide if they’re like minded and worth giving them some trade or spending a week or so with them would turn out to be an ordeal…! I managed to pick up a few bits too - mantec style load racks for the rear cage and a front runner table. The racks went in easy enough but the table required a bit more effort. The OEM rear door car was swapped for a piece of chequerplate and some careful measuring meant the table fits like a glove. All this rear storage raised another issue… the fridge no longer fits. So, out came the rear seats and a platform has been knocked up to house the fridge on one side and a Labrador on the other. The drive home was a bit different as a lorry had unfortunately had a crash closing the M6, the extra time in the drivers seat then irritated an old knee injury which made me ask fellow G4 owners how they coped. Easy, fit seat riser rails! Another member posted a set up to me (mudstuff type) and bingo, instant comfort and room. I’m going to tackle the brakes soon (this week was the G4 Range Rover’s turn for new brakes) and I’m seriously toying with a X-Engineering rear anti-roll bar and possibly Old Man Emu shocks and springs. Oh, nearly forgot. Are the rear tubs on 110’s and 90 the same length front to rear? The rubber load mat has torn on mine and all I see are 90 versions for sale. If they’re the same, I’ll get one but if not, I guess I’m into looking after this one a bit better. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.

No, they're not the same, unfortunately. The one for a 90 should be longer and so could be cut down, but it does depend on where the mat terminates behind the middle row seats.
Alternatively, buy some 3mm ribbed rubber matting from eBay: Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Looks really good and great to see someone taking the time to go through it properly. I owned BK52 GKZ for a while. It had been stripped of all things G4 and blown over with orange paint pre sale by Caffyns.

Thanks, good to keep a bit of heritage going. I’ve heard some horror stories about old Camel and G4 trucks. 2003 110 G4 used in 03 and 06 events - its well travelled.
