Most Uk dealers won’t have a clue about mud and snow to begin with given how few people here consider even running winter tyres.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Beggars belief really. I don't honestly think anyone who runs summer tyres in winter should be allowed to claim on their insurance:

"I can't understand it, I was driving down the road and suddenly I was in a hedge/ditch. What on Earth are the councils playing at..."

Anyway... Rolling Eyes

I've ordered a Defender 110 250D with the 19 inch tyres, believing this would give a better ride. I told the salesperson that we will use it to go to France a lot including the Alps for skiing.

I've now discovered that 19 inch wheel (165/55/ R19) tyres are very limited for Winter/All weather with the appropriate markings. The OE tyres appear not to be M&S or Snowflake marked (getting this checked), and chains not available. But why fit chains (unless it's sheet ice) - I'm buying it to do what a Defender should do!

In France it is now the law that tyres in the Alpine regions must have the M&S or snowflake (3PMSF) markings.

I've written to the dealership but this is a deal-breaker for me. Should the dealership have advised me about the wheel-size? My view is they should. In any event I need 20 inch wheels now given the circumstances.

Help!

Your tire size seems a bit odd to me.

255/65 R19 is the tire size on my winter wheels. Running Continental WinterContact TS 850P with Alpine symbol. Very good snow performance.

"My came with Michelin Latitude Tour HP that is not All Season"

Still some confusion between "M + S" and "3 Peaks", I feel. Surely the Michelin Latitude Tour HP is "M + S" so can be considered adequate for Winter/All Season.

However, it's only "3 Peaks" tyres that will be legal in certain areas from 2024 and boy, what a price difference there seems to be!. If conditions are that bad I probably won't be driving anyway, but like some other posters I'll carry some chains in case I'm caught out...

Hi guys…Someone from the north Europe (Finland or Sweden) said:
“AllSeason are No season”

In my very humbled opinion,
In winter if you came in alps or you drive in north regions is better ride with winter tyres,

And not all Defenders are sold in UK.

Believe or not, UK ist not all of the world.
In fact it's a 0,16% of the land area worldwide.

I also get odd comments about running winter tyres in winter. People say "but it hardly ever snows, what's the point", so you try to help them by explaining how winter tyres "work" but they just dont get it. I have a set of Nokian winter SUV on my RR Sport and they are spectacular in terms of grip, and stunning in heavy rain, standing water etc.
