I imagine that you have checked that your 2014 axle really does have a 4-gear diff? Don't take it for granted if not, Landrover was very economical with the truth when it came to these diffs.

Having read through this thread, I'll be checking the next time I drop the oil!
I had assumed it was.

I guess at the end of the day if it's not a four pin, it's either strong enough for my use in which case happy days, or I break it again so I put an Ashcroft in there. I'm not going to go through the rigmarole of swapping a diff without putting a better one in.

This time a year ago I had a broken diff that needed money spending on it and an axle that I wasn't comfortable with. It seemed logical at the time to kill two birds with one stone and replace the lot, particularly as I knew it needed new drive flanges (I had to cut the old ones off) and I'd have wanted to swap the half shafts whilst I was in there. If the diff breaks again, it will be a broken diff in an axle that shouldn't have issues so I'll be less keen to swap the casing over.

It is possible that the oil seals somewhere have gone a bit wonky as the front diff oil is a lot more black than I'd expect for 15k miles of wear.

You should be able to see which it is through the filler hole.

Located a 300tdi axle case, and for my MY12, will be the most effective and cheapest was forward, and put my concern of the hub falling off at rest.

I only have to cut the 300tdi panhard rod brackets off the 'new' axle and weld on the post 2002 brackets. YRM makes them, will have to see if they ship to EU.. else will be a diy. Probably can simply drill the panhard rod hole from 14mm to 16mm.. but I like originality vs functionality.

Pity I cannot collect the axle case before 3-4 weeks Big Cry 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Unfortunately it was a 200tdi or earlier axle that take the narrow radius arms. On the hunt again. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Interesting but disappointing that it’s from 2010 on when it’s clearly affected earlier models, mine being 2009 ! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/

France put the complaint in.
This is the interesting bit "Measures ordered by economic operators (to: Manufacturer)
Recall of the product from end users
Date of entry into force 25/07/2022"
So the vehicles have to be recalled, obviously the EU were not convinced that the brackets fitted by LR were the solution. Wonder what LR will do with the recalled vehicles? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

And it now covers Defenders made up to mid July 2013.
The recent Aussie recall for this issue was up to and including vehicles made in 2012. I wonder if it will keep expanding?

When did JLR cut off access to this function in Topix?

It still works for Germany, but not for GB. Have you tried to login and check there?

Hi All,
The axel casing on my 2011 defender has cracked through the sub-standard weld. It started with a weep some time ago. A few weeks back I noticed the front left wheel was leaning in. I had a quick look and couldn't see anything obvious. Then I noticed the steering wheel was off centre so on further inspection I saw the Axel flange was resting on the "SAFETY BRACKET" and the weld had opened up. The car was still driving relatively well. Had I not noticed the wheel leaning I'd still be driving it.

At the moment in Australia the recent recall only covers selected vehicles and mine isn't included. My local garage(who has always been very good) contacted landrover and landrover have offered to cover/discount about 1/3rd of the repair. I'm not satisfied with that. I have contacted landrover in Australia and will see what progresses. It's very disappointing the way this is being handled.

Given this has been instigated in France as part of the EU I suspect it has been driven by the excellent and dogged work by member Payney1000 .

See this topic and posts by Payney1000 half way down, 15th August https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic55655...p;start=60

Given Australia and now the EU have issued these notices, how do we get the UK to do the same ?
