Best way to start would be remove the speaker panels, pop out the radio and do a continuity check with a multimeter between the plug at the radio end and the connectors at the speaker end. This will tell you if there is a break in the wires anywhere and which direction the loom goes (downwards into the main harness or upwards into the roof lining). It's odd that you have lost both speakers but you don't mention any other issues with electrics at the rear of the vehicle. For both speakers to stop working you'd need at least two broken wires and it would be odd that if there is loom damage that only speaker wires are damaged.
Would be quite easy to check the speakers are Ok by taking one of the rears and connecting to the front wiring. Don't overlook that fact that the radio could also have failed on the rear channel amp. I guess you've checked the fader has not been tampered with? |

Mega, thanks for the advice. Hopefully will get to look at it this weekend! I'll start with a simple speaker switch and see.
Fader is set equal front and rear. I did change the head unit for a blaupunkt nurnberg 200 pro about 3 months ago with the appropriate adapters. what I'm not sure of is if they were working before (99% sure they were fine). Typically the old head unit is in Manchester and I'm now in France but normally London! Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

Could be the pins aren't in the right places for the new head unit or you have different channel outputs
