 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Stornoway Grey
110/130 brake upgrade
Has anyone fitted upgraded brakes to a 110/130 on 16" rims. I see lof do a larger set for 18"s. I am after improving braking ability on my 130 which when loaded with camping kit and towing 2.5t stops well but just doesn't feel great. Braking system is 100% working as it should be. Thinking different pads as a start, mintex currently. It just doesn't have the bite that 110 has when similarly loaded Cheers

I’ll be watching with interest as I have similar concerns. Are you sure the lof are for only 18s?
Mine again just doesn’t have the bite I would like, performed well on the brake test for the mot but I’m just not convinced.
First off I’m going to go for braided hoses all round, brake lines are original from 2008…!
Mechanic says stop whinging, she’s a heavy old girl….

Have you looked at the LOF Clutches Power Spec brake kit? They specifically mention this for heavily laden 110/130. They do an Extreme spec too but you're looking at @£2k per axle for this and you'll need wheel spacers, but can retain your 16" wheels.

I'm not running these parts myself but they have received good feedback elsewhere.

Not done this on a Landy but on previous cars I've found that stainless steel braided brake lines and different pads make a difference. Additionally high temperature brake fluid.

I've previously used EBC Green Stuff pads and Castrol SRF brake fluid.

How much load are you needing to stop? I have the LOF road spec kit and the only time I've wanted more bite was with 3.4 tonnes of horse trailer behind the 110, its not that the kit is lacking, I'd just like a bit more so I'm going to fit the power spec pads.

I did look at power spec, just seems to be different pads and discs wondering if I don't need more. Extreme 16 and 18? Anyone tried them?

The 345mm set says 18" with spaces the calipers will go behind the rims then?

Already have braided hoses.

My 90 and 110 stop brilliantly, have exactly.same setup on 130, 130 is just heavy and whilst.it.stops better than.most defenders it doesn't stop as well as the other two. Cheers

I don't know if this helps, but I've had braided hoses, overhauled calipers, coupled with the LOF POWERspec pads & disc kit front and rear on my 110, 2.2 puma, and yes the breaking is more progressive, but not the upgrade I expected.

So was considering a 16" compatible upgrade for F & R - I know AP Racing make a set but the price Shocked Zaid-M

spoken with Luke, just considering options. they may need spacers on the 16" which wont work for me.

Porny hasnt come back to me.

Bowlers ones are £4k alround and not sure on rim size needed.

anyone running lukes setup? Cheers

I had Lukes 16" extreme set on my 110. Really happy with the quality, stopping power was certainly heavily increased. Only real option unless you want to spend a small fortune.

Only downside is pads are around £80 a pair but super easy to change. Instagram @defender_ventures

It’s a lot considering it’s just from Alcon when their kit for my Cooper s is nearly half the price.
