True, except outside the english speaking world as that's how we call the pumas in French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish. Not sure about other languages as that's all i know of/speak. Very few call them tdcis, let alone "pumas". 110 HT TD5 w/ PopTop for travelling 110 CSW 300tdi for hunting |

True, in Germany everyone refers to it as a "TD4". Mine is the first gen. 2,4L.

Personally I think, if your car has always been well maintained, you don’t need to check anything for a road trip to Norway. It’s just 5k km. Simply drive your Defender and enjoy the holiday.

After some thinking I believe this is how I will go about it. Ill give the Defender a thorough check (thanks Mo Murphy for the list) and then just drive. Although its tempting to get the LOF adapter shaft... good thing its not in stock

Germany to Norway (and back)?
Hardly a trek through the African jungle! Dragging along a plethora of specialist tools and spares? Do we honestly think that any half-competent garage CAN'T fix a simple mechanical breakdown, have appropriate tools, and/or source parts for a Land Rover? The only potential delay I've experienced was when a double-inlet SU fuel pump (on an old six-cylinder IIA) packed up, it would have been cheaper to stay in a hotel and wait for post from the UK than pay the French dealer price. In fact, one side of the pump hadn't worked from new - nothing changes - and a simple clean-up of the points got me going. Check fluids and tyre pressures before you go, forget the rest and have fun... Peter |

100% agree with you. Just wanted to check if there is anything I should specifically check if the Defender is going in for a check anyways.

The best preparation is doing the maintenance yourself with your friend having a look over your shoulder.
This way you know what to do when something goes wrong. Remember a Defender is never perfect but also never completely broken. I once drove 200 km from Germany home with a broken rear half shaft and an not working altenator while pulling another Land Rover on a trailer. Ok I had to switch batteries after about 150 km Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |
