Miffy and I spent four days camping and surveying out around North Wales and the North West. Lovely to be out and about. Plus waking up to an inch of snow on Saturday morning before going out and surveying a beach was excellent, if mightily cold...
One downside mind... It appears the thermostat on Miffy has stuck open in the last week so she didn't get anywhere near up to temperature (<65 degC), which when camping in the cold is definitely not great Oh well... Defender life eh...?! |

awesome
always thought the oil leaks were an early corrosion prevention system but seems like they're due to something having not been done right broken CV - aha, not the dreaded the adapter shaft as first suspected. glad its (mostly) sorted and you're enjoying the beast happy tours. |

No Not the dreaded adapter shaft as originally thought. Hoofing it up to Aviemore, pulled outa the £2.02 Litre station and BANG no drive. I had nothing else to suspect, it had happened 3 times before after all but last time had an Ashcroft shaft fitted so yes I was rather peeed off. Full car of kit and 2 kids. All onto the roadside. If I’d only had the brains to knock it into diff lock I’d have immediately found I had drive and I could move. Doh! Id have still needed recovery as I wouldn’t have been able to continue on our trip. Cost me a grand to get that done. Don’t forget the £150 to fill up with fuel.
Cheers Cat. Oh and the steelers reason “excuse” for such an oil leak. Well Keith that ball is showing some pitting and it is 10yrs old. Nope, it wasn’t us I’ve sent the manager a picture and explanation, asking as a good will gesture to their mistake and mess that he might gift me a free oil, air and fuel filter |

Spent today replacing seals on driver and passenger door. fairly happy, but suspect I will need to revisit to iron out any minor leaks, and will probably need to readjust door position, but fairly easy.
Whilst I had the door lining off I also swapped the driver side check strap bracket and found a bit of rust behind it to treat Also wired in my new heated front screen, relays & switch just in time for summer! |

well late last week (in the evenings) I fitted my new seats, sorry no photos yet, but then spend the weekend reducing the cables from a e46 race car, removing all redundant wiring for things like windows, central locking that are no longer needed on a race car. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Just finished the refurb of the front passenger seat. Looks amazing... even if I do say so myself
Next it is the drivers-side Refurb process in Miffy thread - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post948529.html#948529 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Spot on
I did mine a couple of years ago - a bit of a faff clipping the bottom of the seat back cover - but well worth it. You can now ‘sit’ back and enjoy |

I’ve driven that road a fair few times as we go to Mull a fair bit, it’s one of my favourite drives in Scotland down there to Iona. |

I had the fright of my life while driving to work on Wednesday morning, going along about 50-55 mph and there was one mighty crash / banging noise from under Millie, my first thoughts were propshaft or something along those lines, something caught my eye in the drivers mirror, a big lump of metal flying across the road to the other side, thank god no one was behind me or coming the other way. I was lucky in the fact that i pulled over straight away onto a wide grass verge so i was completely off the road, got out and had a good look around Millie, she seemed all in tack, so i walked up the road to retrieve this big lump of metal, it was my front diff guard still intact and in it's right shape, picked it up and carried onto a layby to have a good look under Millie to make sure she was all ok as i could not on the grass verge, all good and carried onto work.
I stopped off at my indy on the way home from work and told him what happened and he had never heard of this ever happening, so were not sure how the bolts came loose My indy will put it back on in a weeks time when Millie goes in for a 6,000 mile service Has anyone here ever heard of one of these just coming off, no warning noises, just flying off 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
