CB Radio Aerial Mount
I will be installing a CB radio in the car (when it arrives) does anybody who's coming from a D4 know whether one of Uncle Ray's aerial mounts would fit the roof rails on the New Defender? Cheers Ian

The roof rail channel is pretty wide. I've yet to find anyone who has mounted a CB antenna on it. I've been chatting to Simon at PowerfulUK & hopefully he will come up with a solution. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S

A reply to this has been posted on the FB All New Defender Off-road group where the owner has made a detachable ground plane plate that bolts between two of the cross bars of the expedition roof rack (could probably do it with just the cross bar system if you don’t have the full on rack) and the head unit is removable being mounted in one of the “bins” that you buy off the inter web that fit in one of the slots in the centre console.

Some of the South African and Aussie members have mounted the antenna on a folding mount on the trailing edge of the bonnet leading the cable through one of the factory grommeted holes in the firewall back to the cabin.

Check the video of the Gaydon Land Rover Show from Powerful UK
They show a Freelander 1 with the CB antenna mounted on the rear wheel holder.

Could be an idea for the Defender

Thanks for those pics. Useful for me too. Simon(PowerfulUK)'s initial idea looks similar with a plate which would double as a ground plane or to mount a mag mount & bolt to the roof rails as opposed to the cross bars. I'll let you know when I get some more info.
Also the D4 rails look similar size so that mount could work?

I've spoken to Ray who manufactured the original brackets shown in the above photos and he is going to see if he can find a new Defender and just try the rails for size and he's going to get back to me soon Thumbs Up Cheers Ian

Hi All,

Just wondering if there was any contact info for RLD (tried googling w/o success) to see about getting one of their roof rail antenna (NMO?) mounts.

Thanks!

Dave

Dave the post just above mine with username RLD is Ray, once you have 3 posts you can PM him on here and he will get back to you. The mounts are great and also fit the Disco 3/4's and is the only mount I've used on my cars. So you need 2 more posts to be able to private message Ray, so what Defender do you have? Wink Cheers Ian

Re Ray's mounts. They will fit but the channel in the roof bars is wider than on D3/4 so positioning and tightness will be important. Ideally the the plate that sits in the channel needs to be a bit wider (33mm c/w 29mm on D3/4). I've just moved a light bar using Thule mountings and had to buy a new mounting kit to ensure fit and ease putting on and taking off. Neil

I've had 2 of Ray's mounts fitted for a couple of months now and providing you make sure the plate is central in the roof rail they tighten up without a problem. One of mine has a big Sirio aerial attached to it which has Censored many trees when out on the green lanes and the mount is still fixed properly Thumbs Up Cheers Ian
