Well ... not sure with Defenders [never tried], but i work on Transits every day and they wont rev above 3000rpm in neutrel either [unless you depress the clutch too]
so i'd assume its normal on the Defender. Will try it with mine tomorrow Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

did you have foot on clutch, even if slight pressure is on clutch or in gear with clutch down, then there is a rev limiter to save prem clutch wear.

I prefer to call it Launch Control
Although I don't think the gearbox would survive dumping the clutch at 3000rpm.... |

I don't really know, Spud. Its all total conjecture on my part. I use the 2SO because in my experience with my last car it keeps the internals (turbo vanes, MAP sensor, EGR etc )clean and because for much of the time its short journeys and cold starts for the 110 thats why I use it. The rattle stopped for a while during which time I was intermittantly using JASO FB but for the last couple of weeks after I cracked open the Castrol Actevo which is FC (and used it at each fill since) its got noisy again thats why I thought there may be some correlation between the two.
I remember Nicknick said that due to manufacturing tolerances between batches of engine components the injection timing even if out by 1/4 of a degree can cause the rattle and can be adjusted on a laptop. I'm assuming that the differing burning characteristics of derv/2SO compared to just derv is enough to exascerbate whatever the status quo of my particular timing set up is. Bloody hell that sounds like poppycock but today I filled up with me normal Topaz diesel with no 2SO added so I'll soon know if thats the case. Funnily enough my father in law's 1 year old 90 is a rattly one too so I suppose thats just how some of them come out of the box |
