If you store it a lot, and given that you can’t trickle charge it, you’d benefit from fitting a battery isolator to enable you to disconnect it whilst stored. 👍
As for battery - I’d personally go for biggest ah that will fit. Tanya website tends to be good value and efficient at shipping. |

Thank you - if I fit an isolator wouldn’t that mean the alarm is then not connected?

If your battery is dead then the alarm is also? Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

In theory yes but not if new battery once fitted keeps things working as they should with more regular running,

The Orginal Battery is a :
VARTA CX23-10655-BA (019) 12V 90Ah 800A It's a 019 sized battery I replaced my orginal with one of theses: VARTA G14 AGM 12V 95Ah 850A From Tayna Batteries (https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/g14/) Service was second to none, Tayna delivered that battery in 2 days by DHL (their normal service) and it was ready chagered just needing to install. Yuasa of the 019 size, 100AH which is a small upgrade on standard. I think it’s the silver series which is what I have.
You can get them on eBay delivered to your door. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Hi Churchy,
As per above post https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx5019/ Can't get the truck at the moment to measure up, but will this be a straight swap for the standard genuine battery, ie will it fit in no problem and still leave room for the jack etc? |

While I did not fit the Yuasa, the Varta was a straight fit in a 2014 2.2 Puma.
Easy steps; the seat base, the silver flipclip, the under seat carpet/flooring (use the seat belt to hold it out the way) the black cover panel. Take out jack, toolkit, and wheel chock (glives a little more room to play with) The 2 long posi-headed bolts that hold the battery clamp are a bit of a PITA to remove, (it feels like they will snap due to the length, about 30cm long and thread corrosion ) use a socket of the right size (10mm?) when I removed mine they squealed, a spot of penetrating oil kinda helped. Once both are out, remove the clamp, also remove the battery vent line on the side of the battery The nuts to loosen the terminals are easy (the alarm will sound as the battery is detached) lift out old battery, (lift the frount end and slidelift out, since the hole in the seat box is smaller than the length of the battery) drop in the new battery. In the imortal words "reverse the procedure to complete" (I ran a thread die over the threads of the long bolts to clean them up, and soaked in waxoyl, along with the bracket) Total time was about 3/4 hour due to faffing and looking for my tap and die set. Would take 1/4 of an hour if every thing went easy. Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |

Also I remembered for safety, I slipped a disposable glove over the + battery lead, and left the plastic terminal caps on till connection.
You will loose any radio presets or setting (OEM Alpine head unit) Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |

That’s great thank you all - will order up the YUASA now. TheZee the tip about the seat belt to hold the carpet back is genius as it always annoys me and note the tip about some treatment on the bolt threads. Before it went into storage I cleaned, treated and re sprayed the battery compartment but didn’t think about the bolt ends but that makes sense!
Due to the wagon being in storage I haven’t been on here for a while but its reassuring to know responses are still as quick and helpful as they always were! Will see how the new battery copes with irregular running and report back. Hoping to move in not too distant future to somewhere where I have capacity to keep store the wagon at home and then I can go with the other recommendations of battery conditioner etc etc. Cheers Churchy |
